Hmm, sounds like your details must be on the dark Web. Suggest you go here.I had quite a good banking scam tried on me recently. I got a phone call that said they came from my bank saying there had been unusual activity on my account.
This is a scam, I thought, and as they talked to me I went and looked at my online banking app. On it there was unusual activity, from an hour earlier, with failed transactions I knew nothing about. The caller said we've noticed this activity - describing it - and there it was on my account. I did wonder, for about 30 seconds, if this was a genuine call.
It wasn't. What the attempted scammers had done was get access to an old cancelled card of mine, which presumably also had my phone number in that database file. They then did tried some transactions on the old card, then waited a short time and phoned me up and told me about them. The idea was to get my trust in them - and then I would expect to try and make me take actions involving me giving them money.
They didn't get my trust, so nothing happened, but it was a good scam. The transactions combined with the call made me at first think it might be genuine. If it happens again I will change my phone number, but so far it hasn't.
Retire in their 40’s on a fat pension? Surprising potential recruits aren’t queuing up for a jobThe Police are frankly useless, little wonder they get their budgets slashed, they never do anything Except retire in their 40's on fat pensions.
They started asking "what other bank accounts do you have, as we need to contact them". No bank would do that. That is worrying. How did you realise that it was a scam?
Yes, the attempted transactions were all for small amounts.Hmm, sounds like your details must be on the dark Web. Suggest you go here.
If your old card number and new one are very similar ask the bank for another new one which is different. It's not uncommon when you get a new card for only the last 4 digits to change and it can be worked out. There are also many places that will not bother authorising small amounts online so you could get a load of <£20 items hit your accountHave I Been Pwned: Check if your email has been compromised in a data breach

Actually email addresses are only the start of it. Many sites take your full name, address, phone number and date of birth. Some even exposed bank card numbers. After my initial post I went back to check my emails again (last time about 4 years ago) and one of my closed emails there had been all the above details taken in a leak affecting 700 million people.!Looks like a nice way to harvest plenty of email addresses for sale.
Same here except different places, the worst being Delhi and Saigon partly because both included my passport. Not the greatest places in the world for that to happen.Never anything violent fortunately, but I have been pickpocketed loads of times, Pamplona, Rome (several times) and Ethiopia (loads of times, its endemic there) Plus, got my expensive camera nicked in Peru several years back.
No not recent 2011. I honestly felt like jacking it all in after that and work in Tesco or something, of course I didn’t as the phone kept ringing and eventually got the kit back up to scratch.FFS! was this recent / where abouts?
I've just fitted a sensor in the back of mine that rings my phone everytime the doors are opened, bit intermittent and bit annoying..
Surely you learn after the first pick pocket ordealNever anything violent fortunately, but I have been pickpocketed loads of times, Pamplona, Rome (several times) and Ethiopia (loads of times, its endemic there) Plus, got my expensive camera nicked in Peru several years back.
Not in Ethiopia unfortunately. There are just so many ways to 'get done'. Ethiopian pickpockets are masters of all forms and I have been left speechless with admiration at some of the tricks employed and they don't all follow the traditional boring distraction techniques.Surely you learn after the first pick pocket ordeal
Did the same thing and my old email add has been leaked by Deezer, the breach included ... "Dates of birth, Email addresses, Genders, Geographic locations, IP addresses, Names, Spoken languages, Usernames". I'd already unsubscribed by the time that was leaked though.Actually email addresses are only the start of it. Many sites take your full name, address, phone number and date of birth.
