Next to the Co-op? Just down the road from me and it's bloody lovely. Hope it stays for a bit.

Went past it the other evening - looked a very mellow scene.

And I'm glad to see it's staying after that nonsense with the security people.

There should be more of these things about.

Whereabouts then? Trying to think of places round and about that could do with brightening up. Ooh, how about where they want to build the 360 Tower, down by the West Pier, for starters?

Agree though about how good they are to see and that there should be more.

How good is that ?

Fantastic!

My second instinct, sadly, is "how long before vandals desecrate it?" but I really hope that the residents can keep it going and maybe this brilliant idea will spread

Very good shout. I walk past there every day to and from catching my train.

How about the roadworks right by the Heart in Hand. Been there for weeks and no-one seems to be doing sweet FA. Might as well have a nice beer garden.

What is that New England Rd/Street building that housed the temporary library used for these days? Seems to be some kind of drop in centre for street drinkers and the like?!?!

There was talk a few years ago about opening up the old garden next to London Road station (Springfield Road side) as a "Pocket Park", but nothing ever came of it. The railway people had no objection to this, provided it was properly fenced.

Once upon a time, the land was used as an allotment by the staff of London Road station. And once upon a time, of course, London Road station had permanent, resident staff. And gas lights.

Everyone locally has been very supportive. Fortunately it's locked at night, it's right opposite one of the areas tougher pubs and the traffic is pretty much 24 hours a day so the vandals would probably be spotted straight away so, touch wood, no vandalism so far.

I read about guerilla gardening a year or two back. There's all sorts of groups that have websites with advice and tips etc.

The local residents are currently fighting developers plans to build more housing on the The Open House side of the station where there is a mini 'nature habitat' - not sure if that's the area you're referring to. Bloody disgraceful if it's allowed to happen.

Sadly someone has applied for planning permission there. It looks like it's going to a public inquiry.

the great thing with this concept is that they can provide amenity value until a space is developed and then move onas there will always be fresh opportunities. The problem is - of course - can the developers trust the gardeners to pack up when the time comes?

No-one told me I was a guerilla gardener but a couple of years ago I planted the weed-covered space on the corner of our road using a mix of annuals and perennials - lo and behold this summer the council workers put annuals in my planters - result!

It's called Vantage Point, and it's pig ugly.
Actually I 'quite like' Vantage Point; there are a lot worse sixties developments in Brighton - VP's near neighbour New England House being probably the best (worst) example.

Going back to the garden in Lewes Road, yes it's great and there should be more public spaces like that. Is it only there for the summer do you know? Or is it going to be semi-permanent at least until Esso sell the site.

Its a permenant fixture until sold although I dont beleive Esso still own the site.

If its the one I think you mean (bordered by Bondchurch road and Seville St) where the old railway went then the park is still there,
