Not going to spoil anything by explaining why this word was my starter.

I'm now going to start using my backup word which I normally use when I get no yellow or green letters at the start so another 1 could be coming my way soon...

I thought I'd snaffled a 2 in my 1000th game but it wasn't to be.

I think I may change my starter word from tomorrow after using old faithful for a the best part of 3 years. Today's results made me hungry for another hole in one

Just as a matter of interest, when did you miss 6 days, as I started the same day as you and am up to 1006 games?

Hmmm. I've only ever missed one day. I thought it was the 1000th as that what my phone's calculator suggests (I do my average on it each day). Maybe I didn't start doing the average until a few days in.

I stopped doing that a long while back as it gives you an advantage of sorts - when there are plenty of twos for example you can be fairly sure that a lot of the most common letters are used.

It took me ages before I used a check list of previous words after a guess and I only did that because lots of others confirmed they did - my average has understandably improved since then because of it.

Luck remains a key constituent though as despite the good start today I could easily have had a 4

Agree with all that. Checking this thread first, especially when you know of at least two others using the same starter word, would give an “unfair” advantage.

As for previous answers list, I admit I check it, but only if I am on last guess and have more than one option. Although will obviously check it now to come up with a new starter word.
