I had a similar pattern today so I'm a little bit relieved to see someone else had the same problem. I got the general jist quickly but I still had another 2 possible words so it really was just a swing and a miss. But it's the 4th fail I've managed this year, having had just 1 last year and they all look like this. I don't know how other people are ruling out all the the other options so quickly but congratulations for doing so. I'm enjoying following along with the competition, good work all!

Some people check previous answers to rule them out. I don't tend to do that myself but I remembered that
watch and catch had been solutions
so went for the next most common word. I do often have a look at past answers after I play though to see if my memory was right.

You are very good at this. I always check that each guess is not a previous answer. My brain is wired oddly and my speech centre is vulnerable to resonance, meaning I reuse words in aesthetically unpleasing proximity. I have to edit my written work because of this. It can be on a clunky par with the rhyming quality of of the first two lines of 'War Pigs' (look it up :lolol:). With wordle, I would very certainly make guesses using words that have been the answer recently.

Yep, I think we've all worked out the checkers have a distinct advantage. Hopefully, Wordle will introduce repeats before too long, and as the 5 letter words diminish, to make it a level playing field, as otherwise the advantage will only grow.

Is past solution-checking the Wordle equivalent of IV rehydration drips (<100ml in any 12 hour period) for athletes OR steroids, I wonder? πŸ€” It helps, but doesn't guarantee a low score. I like the idea that NYT may start repeating words although I read somewhere that there's 15000 5letter words.

Apparently the script is written up till October 2027, with a further 1,700 words to come (all of which are stored on all of our computers already!). So - no repeats for a while, if at all - it might just stop then.

And it maybe that it actually gets harder, as with fewer potential words left, they might be more difficult to think of.
