Well done @SeagullsoverLondon. I think you still need to add my 3-3 draw today to my league record(in the Cup) - how you keep up with all this is remarkable!
Thank you for pointing that out - I have been having a few problems with your username in my spreadsheet not hyperlinking properly - I think there is an extra space or something; hopefully corrected now.

Updated Group D Table

As to keeping up with it - all the fixtures and tables are set up with formulae already in place - so just have enter scores, and everything else is done, including the ordering of the tables. And an easy job to screenshot/copy &paste while watching Ireland smash Italy!

Still not sure about your best streak for 2024 makes sense?
Oh yeah. The two should be 42. No fails this year. What happened was I thought I had failed to complete the day wordle went down. I updated my spreadsheet, then got online late in the day, and didn't update the correction. Or something. Does that make sense?

Downright cheating I'd call that.

'Looking at past answers' OTOH was a game changer for me. It never occurred to me to do this until after I'd finished bottom of the last competition. I was quite miffed especially as I think of myself as a bit of a wordsmith type (used to work as an editor). In trying to explain it, I raised the topic of checking previous solutions (something I'd never done) but as no one responded to my post on the question of whether or not it was allowed, I came to the conclusion that I was probably the only person not doing it. Needless to say that my scores have improved significantly since then (apart from today's 6!) As the number of 5-letter words dwindles, Wordle is therefore getting easier.
@Colonel Mustard I started doing it after someone else mentioned it on here. My mean scores have improved as a result, as well as using 'rules' - basically trying to use common letters first. If i'd started calculating my mean score after that, it would be a lot lower, I think. Sorry it didn't work for you today (incidentally, your sobriquet used to be one of my nicknames!).

Interested from afar- is everyone free to use previous winning word lists as some on here do, as can make a big difference to results? Am guessing there are no rules/ anything goes?
Yes everyone can use previous word lists but I'm undecided as to whether it should be allowed (maybe because I don't have one). If however you get the last 4 letters 'ound' you are left with at least 7 other possibilities of the 1st letter (assuming you've eliminated 1). My 'back up word' if I had no yellows on the first go, would eliminate one option. A list of words would narrow that down further.
My 3rd guess today was the only one I could think of after getting the last 3 letters on turn 2. I used 'wordle bot' after to see if there were any other options. I would've felt like I was cheating if I'd realised the other 2 words and checked to see if they had already been an answer.
According to Google there are 12792 words in the Wordle dictionary, plurals aren't used so 'names' or 'words' wouldn't be an answer. It's also American so there is a distinct lack of 'u's in places.
I'm torn, so I think there should be separate comps for those that use previous word lists and those that don't. However I think I maybe overthinking the competition somewhat! :lolol: In my rules of Scrabble you can't look at the dictionary to check if it's a word, the onus is on the competition to say that it isn't, so that's when the dictionary is used.
My general competitor has been abroad for a couple of months so hasn't been playing, he came back and started using my starter word 'to make things fair' as he's not won a match in the 18 months we've been playing (1st to 6 wins), I think he's cheating as well. 🤣 My starter word has already been an answer but after getting it in 1 & trying different starter words, it messed up my thought processes so I've gone back to my starter. I'm clinging onto the hope that words will be repeated even though the assumption is they wont.
I just need to point out that I don't take Wordle seriously at all & didn't say 'oh b**locks' seeing that @Frutos had knocked me off of 2nd place!!

Annoying, if I’d followed my rules rather than going rogue on 2 , I’d have kept my run of 3s going. Oh well…

I'm away at Man City today (or @Bakero as they are known on here). Thought I was in for a shock win as the first four turned green on my second go - but now will be lucky to hold on for a draw.
