@SeagullsoverLondon - without wishing to detract anything from your superb organisation of this and all previous tournaments, can I propose that this be the last which features an "away goals" rule?

Obviously I'm not sure what my fellow players think, and I know it might sound odd coming from someone who has just benefitted from said rule, but it doesn't quite sit right with me. I think a replay system for drawn KO matches would be fairer, but that's just my two penn'orth.

Again though, thank you for all your work and diligence with these competitions.
Not going to disagree with you. Clearly a controversial rule, and the annoyance it causes is probably one of the reasons UEFA has abandoned it for their cup competitions. In fairness, I only included partly out of nostalgia, listening to radio and later TV commentary of Euro cup competitions through the years. It added that extra layer of jeopardy to the games.
Also, I thought it would reduce the number of replays (which is has) which sometimes disrupts the flow of the competition, as everyone else is waiting for one game to finish.
In hindsight, perhaps it should not have been used (particularly for the knock out stages, and semis in particular).

So, on to the finals.
And checking my notes:
Final (in Virtual Dublin - have your Guinness ready) - one game - replay as necessary.
The plan was for a one standalone game final (one leg only)
However, the competition has evolved, so the plan will be for 12 "final games"

My proposed schedule is to build up to the overall winner's game by sorting out the minor places earlier:

Final Games
02/10/202323-24 Playoff@Colonel Mustard@pasty
02/10/202321-22 Playoff@Icy Gull@surrey jim
02/10/202319-20 Playoff@The Brighton Bear@Bodian
02/10/202317-18 WS Final@Papak@DavidinSouthampton
03/10/202315-16 Playoff@Iggle Piggle@Badger Boy
03/10/202313-14 Playoff@Titanic@Dinner with Gotsmanov
03/10/202311-12 Playoff@BrightonCottager@The Oldman
03/10/20239-10 Playoff Conf Final@Ooh it’s a corner@Cotton Socks
04/10/20237-8 Playoff@Bedsex@JJ McClure
04/10/20235-6 Playoff@SeagullsoverLondon@Thunder Bolt
04/10/20233-4 Playoff@Harry Wilson's tackle@One Teddy Maybank
05/10/2023Europa Final@Bakero@Frutos

Obviously schedule would be moved to allow for replays. Also, if everyone would prefer a two legged contest, I am equally happy for us to do that.
Let me know what everyone would like, and we can go with the consensus.

I think one "leg" and replays is the way to go.

Thanks again for all your work on this!

It's been brilliant (despite my away goal exit).

And... just in case anyone decides to write a research paper on the matter, possible evidence of the impact of improved performance when there is a silly competition for people to play:
Nearly all players who record their stats have seen an improvement since the Europa competition started.

Your work on this has been stunning @SeagullsoverLondon , thank you for your time and organisational skills! I was very unhappy with my away goals rule knock out but this was CLASSIC Europa League format and those injustices happened in real life and it feels somehow fitting that there have been some outrageous KOs! Fantastic competition again but I'll be pleased never to have away goal rules in future!

So the first silverware is up for grabs tomorrow as the minnows battle it out for the "WS" - much better than actually calling it the Wooden Spoon :)

I think an early night with a special 5 letter words only dictionary for me...

I was also wondering if the competition had tightened up the scoring at all and it appears it has so thanks @SeagullsoverLondon for making us all improved Wordlers.

This whole thing has been excellent - thank you. And certainly makes me realise that some people know a lot of words! Good luck to all - especially the finalists.
