Rumour at Withdean today was that there was a board meeting in the week where Poyet recommended getting rid of FIFTEEN current squad players in the January transfer window - and buying SIX new players.

Sounds like the kind of drastic action required.

For we are deeply mediocre and show no signs of improvement.

Would be good if it were to happen.

Isn't this all just chinese whispers though. Anyone can just say things like this when they're pissed in a crowd and it gets overheard. A bit like when I went round telling birds I was an Olympic ping pong hopeful on a night out once. They went crazy for it but now I get people calling me Forrest Gump and stuff.

Sounds a load of rubbish to me, Some fans seem more interested in chopping and changing the squad rather than letting them settle, finding our best starting XI and letting them find some form.

Besides we don't need to make that many changes to the current squad and unsettle everything again anyway. We have a current squad of 30 (including Hoyte on loan and the youngsters coming through) so to get rid of 15 and bring in 6 would mean having only 21 players to last the rest of the season. So what then if theres an injury crisis and / or the need to cover suspensions etc.

Interesting- as Poyet said in an interview recently he'd like a team of a size of around 22 players..

I don't see why we should need anything more than a squad of 23/24 maximum. We have too much dross taking up valuable wages. I would rather have a smaller squad which will be much easier for the management team to work with.

We have so many passengers. A decent example, I would rather have one player to replace (on a bigger wage packet) Livermore, McLeod and Hart. All three seemingly add nothing to the team and it is a waste of everyones time.

We can always add a few loans in if we are struggling in one particular area.

Brinkhurst playing very well at Lewes. Scored a cracker today from 25 yards and made a couple as the Rooks came back from 2 down to win 6-2.

Just far enough away from LDC
A friend and I were discussing on the way home (not having heard this rumour) what was needed.

There are simply too many livermore's and mcleod's who are unlikely to play for us again. Like all previous managers it seems poyet doesn't like the look of kuipers. Not sure Brezovan is the answer though.

You can see why el abd and hart keep getting games. It doesn't seem that he can rely on anybody elese to carry out his instructions effectively. Crofts and Navarro look to be out Lampard and Gerrard (a la sven) and poyet needs to find a way to have them in the same side. If anyone doubted what Dicker brings to the party then today spelt it out - he's the only midfielder with composure.

We also need to find a role for Cox. He's not a winger but would play well behind the front two (as wilkins did with him). The question is will Poyet builda team around him?

Murray clearly only plays when he wants to and what on earth has Whing done to be so out of favour? As for Hoyte, is it some practical joke (a la George Weah's brother) that he played for Arsenal?

My keeps would be Kuipers, Tunnicliffe, Elphick, mcnulty, elabd, crofts, dicker, cox, dickinson and forster (although wouldn't be surprised to see the latter leave). I think he needs a keeper, two full backs, a winger and another midfielder (plus a striker is forster/murray go). And the biggest issue he needs to get a grip of is that there is no team spirit and any bad apples need to be shipped out now and replaced.

We need one player. Someone who can be Poyet's voice on the pitch. A decent, hard working, talented midfielder (of the quality of Nobby Horton or Danny Wilson would be ideal, but let's be realistic). Break the bank for that player and we can turn the season round - as long as Poyet has the cojones to give the entire squad the rocket up the a..s they all deserve.
