Six years ago I celebrated my 25th wedding anniversary, and things were pretty OK. Nice big house, all paid for, owned half of a successful business, nice car, nice holidays, nice.....errrr.....then it all unravelled within the space of a few months. Doscovered that wifey had been having a tacky affair, I lost motivation and things fell apart. Then suddenly, no house, no business, no car, no wife, no family. no nothing. Remember that Joni Mitchell line, "Don't it always seem to go/That you don't know what you got till it's gone".

Now well into my 50's and I'm rebuilding a different life. Live without debt, no mortgage, no credit card, no unnecessary stress. Have a fun job that pays a fraction of what I was earning 20 years ago, but I don't care.

I'm a poorer but happier person now.

You're truly richer now then. :)

It seems many moons ago I was footloose and fancy free without a care in the world. The years have rolled by got married worked up the pay scale in life and burdened myself with more responsibilities at work, a mortgage, a wife then the inevitable a child. Yet these things can bring sheer joy sometimes I still get the urge to just do a Reggie Perrin.

Feck where does your life go.

A word to the young on this board, Enjoy everything while you can, and do it all.

I hear you, although growing old disgracefully does have it's appeal..... Do you like to play "spot an older guy than me" at gigs yet? It's become quite an obsession for me....

Fair doos and good luck to you sir.

I just feel like it sometimes when I look at the big picture. I ran the streets had so much fun, playing in bands and travelling all round Europe, America, and Asia right upto the grand old age of 39 and 7 of those I was married and regret nothing and pine to do nothing more. It just seems with a child comes that extra stress of work making sure you do bend over backwards to keep your job, and with the wife also working up in London the stress of crossing over getting child and ourselves to nursery and work is just mental. It starts from 4.30am when the cat cries for food I know I have to get up for the next ten years to feed that damn cat even though I never wanted it, and that just fills me with dread along with making sure I can provide for my wife and child and not just financially, emotionally aswell. When I am close to just cracking up.

I am just having a pants week. :(

"It starts from 4.30am when the cat cries for food I know I have to get up for the next ten years to feed that damn cat even though I never wanted it" - that's some freaky shit my man, very much replicated on the other side of the world in my house, why the war office can't haul her beautiful arse out of bed and deal with the 2 cats I didn't want is beyond me....

Thankfully in my choosen line of music it seems I have always been one of the younger ones and thanks to the music industry and the genral lack of any talent in Psychobilly (apart from the odd band) not many younger english kids get into the scene and I am blesses never to be surrounded youthful people at Psychobilly gigs apart from Germany and America and we get respect off the kids there as we is "Ol School"

I dont mind most days, but when I have a hangover, when I just need more than 5hours sleep, I just then take a deep sigh and think " Another 10 feckin years of this ! and then wonder why did I fall for this deal, how could I not see this play out" Damn cat.

Ps The cat adores me and I kinda feel bad, bad mouthing the little shit to the rest of the world.

In my mid fifties...carrying on the same way as I did at 30, but with much better looking women. Something I didnt expect.

Dave , you,ve never mentioned you have a pretty girlfriend before have you ?:lolol:

The only thing that I hate about my life at 51 is the pains I feel when I wake up in the morning from years of back problems. The building game does that to you. Hardest game in the world
( Paul Whitehouse 2001)
All in all though I count my blessings. 3 great kids and a lovely woman.
And there is the wife as well.

She said to me the other day lets go upstairs and make love and I thought, ' well it's one or the other at my age'

Perhaps it's called growing up, but the 3 turning points in adding to stress / taking away fun in order seem to be:

1. Getting a job. Students and pupils have it easy, but just don't realise it at the time.

2. Leaving the Hotel Mum & Dad, and having your own place with bills and DIY.

3. Having kids. Love 'em to death, but that ends the Sat & Sun morning dossing after working hard all week, nights out whenever you want, and generally being selfish.

Solution - relax as often as you can, resume things that you love e.g. music & sport/exercise, holidays, and the Albion!

Its not just the pretty girlfriend...its getting chatted up by loads of them...being a native English speaker counts for a lot here haha... Ive had girls use my girl as a translator to chat me up!.
I suspect if I return to the UK single, being my age will not be so attractive to English girls, so will probably stay here whatever happens.

'Questions' - true what you say about manual work & the body, but in the offices I've worked in, half the people over say 35 have really bad backs etc too. Sitting at a desk all day is one of the worst things you can do ... our bodies weren't designed for that.

Keep it up mate....... If you pardon the pun. A bag of green, a pretty girl and some good sounds ? Why give that all up.
