I've nearly been.

I was once in Monte Carlo when it was on and was offered a place in a boat to near the finishing line to watch it (I was at a corporate do). But as motor racing excites me about as much as the North of England paint-drying championship I declined the place and went mooching around Antibes instead.

Ive never seen the Monaco grand prix, but i have been to Monaco. I doubt very much you will see anything.

I imagine the best place to see it will be at the around the harbour up the road where you get to the Palace.

Mini's football manager is going.

I was offered a corporate ticket for Silverstone but turned it down, just not my cup of tea so someone else is going from my section at work.

I went to the Rugby this year and two others went to the Windsor Horse show so we have all had a jolly this year.

I went in '83 - Keke Rosberg/Turbo days (shit am I that old!) if you don't have a ticket don't expect to see much the security is tighter than Parkhurst and grandstands all sold out ages ago, there is a standing area on the hillside called the 'Pelouse Rocher 'or something but its ticket entry again and probably sold out too, tickets will be almost impossible to get and cost 100's of euros if you can find one, views from anywhere else are boarded off other than a brief glimpse as a car flashes past at 130 mph - on the other hand the experience, noise and generally hub-hub of the place is amazing, worth the experience but don't expect to see a car in action unless you are as rich as Tony bloom!.....and go by train, don't drive anywhere within 10 miles of the place.

Dave, I've only just seen this thread so may be too late but my views are:

1. Previous advice is dead right - take the train! The station in Monte Carlo is a fair walk from the track but fraction of the distance you would be walking if driving.

2. There are still tickets available in K Grandstand which offers about the best viewing available from any grandstand at MC. It also looks out over the harbour so the general views are superb, and there is a giant screen to the left to see the action all round the track. As others have said, it's not cheap at all. A 'K' Grandstand seat is €450 Euros and if it rains you get wet!

The Automobile Club de Monaco ticket office link is

http://www.formula1monaco.com/GP/Page/index.aspx?param=22

You can pay by card and collect from one of their offices in MC.

Don't know if I've encouraged you or put you off but I would say that it is a unique experience despite the negatives, if you feel the money is worth it!

3. If you are staying in Italy close enough to the border and can get accross on Friday or Saturday, you'd probably be able to pick up last minute 'hospitality' tickets for possibly less than the cost of a grandstand seat. A number of people rent large apartments overlooking he track and include food and drink in the deal. I've seen this people outside the official ticket offices on both Friday and Saturday.

Correct.

If you only want to see good, overtaking, racing you simply wouldn't go to Monaco, but the UK motor racing tour operators take more people to Monaco than to any other GP! It is still a great experience to see 20 cars negotiate a ridiculously tight narrow track at such speeds.
