Over there.
yep been there. Town centre is pretty commercial, lots of cocktail bars with people standing on the street trying to tempt you in with drinks promotions.

Then there's the obvious tourist attractions like Aphrodites batchs, rock etc. There's a nice secluded beach beneath a taverna (slightly dodgy steps) at Aphrodite's baths. Troodos mountains is nice if you have a car, as is the Caledonia Waterfall-very steep and precarious walk up there. Pissouri has a good beach for water sports if you're that way inclined and has a massive amphitheatre. And of course Paphos harbour is buzzing duriung the evening.

Too far from the sun
Just came back from there on Weds. Different things to do/places to drink or eat depending on how old you are and what you like. I was there with the wife and kids so we spent a lot of time by the pool or at the beach. Also went to watch AE Limassol with a Greek Cypriot friend. Pafos also have a team in Cyprus first division if you're desperate for a 'fix' like I was. If you've got a car you'll find better (and cheaper) places to eat if you drive out to villages in the nearby hills. Are you doing the package hotel holiday or the villa/car holiday?

If you escape the tourist trap and the town centree it's not too bad. It is getting popular with Brits on package holidays though, so expect lots of Manure shirts and dodgy tattoos. (a sweeping generalisation there i am aware)

Yes I would definitely recommend hiring a car (driving on the left as in Britain) and finding your own places to visit.

Got a Villa, with car.

So mostly I shall be chilling out in the sun, reading, swimming etc.
It is just a relaxing holiday, but obviously whilst there it would be nice to see abit of the country, havnt been to Cyprus.

Cheers for the views, I shall stay clear of the town centre.

Spot on Harvey - my summary too. I had deja vous reading it. Pissouri is one of my favourite beaches - not too crowded, friendly locals (the beds are run by Phillipos, his brother runs the restaurant/bar), great watersports, safe etc.

Troodos is beautiful - green and cooler than the coast. The caladonian waterfull is a nice walk if you're fleet of foot.

There are lots of unspoilt villages en route across the island so hire a nice cheap Jeep and tour around. Wait 'til u get there - it's cheaper.

Aphrodites Well on the northern coast is nice and there's a small beach that just great for swimming - but watch your steps, as per Harvey.

I actually like Paphos with all the bars - it seems safe and friendly. The harbourside is really nice - favorite bar is Pinguinos - sit outsite with the locals and watch the world go by. :D

If you have a car make sure you go up the mountains - never been to a place where climate changed so quick.

Went to Cyprus two years ago for a hockey tour and family wedding (superb timing there), stayed on the southern coast in Limassol. Have to say I loved the country, it was friendly, incredibly so, the food was good and there was almost unbroken sunshine for the whole week.

Paphos is at the western end of the island and has a really good reputation, far better than Agia Napa at the eastern end where you stand a fair chance of being beaten up for being British. The bad feeling in Agia Napa stems from the mid 90's when a Danish girl was murdered by 3 English soldiers, the locals don't seem to have forgotten this, the town remains out of bounds to military personnel from the Sovereign base area.

The advice about getting a car is good, petrol is cheaper than pretty well anywhere I have been and you will be able to get out and see the rest of the island. Taxi's are also reasonable, I took one from Nicosia back to Limassol, around 35 miles and it cost me 20 quid. Whatever you end up doing, enjoy your holiday.
