I suspect that there are a lot of athletes at the games who are considerably fitter than virtually every footballer but what would you rather watch, two hours of an open water swimming race or 90 mins of football (assuming both were covered live by Sky at 4.00pm on a Sunday afternoon). Having said that, the finish in the swimming was exciting.

Surely BMX racing is far more of a sport than any of those where points are awarded by judges, eg syncro swimming, gymnastics etc. Have just seen the time trial for BMX on the box and both Reade and top French rider fell (Frenchie went right over the handlebars) but both qualified for the racing as you get two runs.

It seemed that they were quite conservative when using their legs for much of the race and focused on the upper body, before letting rip with their legs for the final sprint. An incredible feat though.

Tomorrow, she is Victoria Pendeltons lead out women in the sprint on the track cycling but the IOC do not include it. They are world champions, but I believe BMX is her main focus.
