No, not those neo-Nazi bastards who pry into your PM box here on NSC.

I've got some Dobie Gray (who? - if you're a mod, you'll have heard of 'I'm In With The In Crowd') on iTunes on at the moment, and it took me back 20 years to the Scooter dos we used to go to, all slip-sliding across the floor to Northern Soul or Motown, skanking to Robert Marley or the Harry J All-Stars, and these were old records at the time!

So what kind of mod were you, what did you prefer? What was the ONE dance track that always got you up and bopping (cos that's what mods can do - dance. Bit of soul? Ska/Bluebeat/Two-Tone? Jazz? Britbands?

My top 5 'mod' tunes

Northern: Out On The Floor - Out On The Floor
Motown: Shake Me, Wake Me (When It's Over) - Four Tops
Ska: Elizabethan Reggae - Boris Gardiner
Jazz: Blow Up - James Taylor Quartet
Britband: Making Time - The Creation

Just curious, like. Smart.

Not a mod, but I am partial to a bit of ska from time to time, keep hoping in vain for a revival.

20 years? Mods were just copycats then.

The real mods were 40 years ago.

I like to think of myself as a mod. Even though I'm only 18 years old ha!

I have a vespa, can recite Quadrophenia quote for quote, wear Fred Perrys and worship The Who but that doesn't necessarily make me a mod I guess. More of a revivalist!

My top mod choons would be something like..

Northern ~ R. Dean Taylor - There's A Ghost In My House
Motown ~ Martha Reeves - Heatwave
Ska/Roots ~ Des Dekker - Israelites
Britband ~ The Kinks - Big Black Smoke

Must confess to being there in the early days, some of my favourites:-

‘Can’t explain’ - The Who (and most of their other stuff)

‘I can’t help myself (sugar pie honey bunch)’ – Four Tops

‘What'Cha Gonna Do’ – Small Faces

‘Times are a changing’ – Dylan

‘Baby, baby’ – The Supremes

‘I’m in with the in crowd’ - Dobie Gray

Most Beatles, Stones, Hollies and Kinks stuff
