Sorry to ask on here but can’t find anything on line.

Thanks for any help

If you contact the development team at the Sussex FA they should be able to put you in touch with someone.

I take my kids to the park and kick footballs at them.

I don't know how other kids' clubs work but the team my son plays for has a goalkeeper coach who works with all the age group's keepers either before or after their team's actual training session on goalkeeping specifics. We also take any player without a trial so if he's a beginner and in the Brighton area PM me and I can put you in touch.

If he's already decent then I can't help specifically but there must be decent clubs out there with a similar set up.

Wow, at grass roots level that is very impressive and sounds a very advance setup.. almost unheard of!

It's not at the Ben Roberts level :lolol:

For a while now we've realised that keepers tend to get cold and wet in the middle of winter if they're just stood still in an attack v defence drill so a separate area was created for them to go through their paces with former keepers for us who now have their level 1. It covers off safeguarding and improves the goalies but it does happen on a Saturday morning which is when all our teams train. If clubs have smaller training areas or train on different days it's obviously much harder (or impossible) to do.

My son used to train with Stuart Owen's the ex-pro who ran Sokeepers Academy a few years back. At the time he was based in Handcross. He was very good and catered for all ages. Got a feeling he may have moved into Burgess Hill area now. You should be able to find him online?

YES! You’re looking for the Russell Martin Foundation. They do football but also specialist goalkeeper coaching.

My young son has specific keeper training in Crawley within the... ahem, Chelsea... academy structure.

He supports the Albion, honest.

When I was a kid, my cat like abilities were honed by practising with a rubber ball bouncing off a wall.

I used have a client who ran a Goalkeeping academy, as well as a Goalkeepers shop in Worthing. I'll have to see if it's still going or not as my nephew is a keen goalie.

Also worth sending your kid to Albion in the Community football sessions as the good kids get asked to come along to certain training centres and for goalkeepers that includes goalkeeper training at Lancing with academy coaches. Obviously that is only for those deemed good enough to warrant it but if you think your child is good and want to get them spotted then AitC gives them a good chance of that.

Hove Park Colts do the same. I believe our coach also coaches at the Albion academy

Fishersgate Flyers we try to do the same, but dependent on the expertise available really. We've had goalkeeper training as a sub session for all the keepers, across the age groups.

What we also try to do is make sure no one child is designated keeper too early. Our Mini Soccer age groups up to U10 where they play 2 games of either 5v5 or 7v7 per fixture, we try to ensure all the kids are getting a go in goal and learning the basics. No one child can play all of the 2 games under FA guidelines anyway, so at the bare minimum you need 2 kids prepared to go in goal for each mini fixture.

As they get older of course, particularly U11s when they switch to 9v9 on a bigger pitch with a big area and rules the same as the full game, then the coaching can become more technical.

Sorry to hijack thread. But do you know maximum minutes a player can play at under 9s in 1 day? I think it's 60 mins?

From the FA rules: www.thefa.com/-/media/files/pdf/my-football/laws-mini-soccer-7v7-2013-14

Law 7
Duration of the Game

In any one day, no player shall play more than 60 minutes. It is the responsibility of the parent/carer or organisation to ensure the child does not exceed this. Each
league/competition will determine its own playing time within the maximum time permitted however the maximum duration will be two halves of 25 minutes.
It is permitted during development matches that the periods of play can be split into equal quarters.
The half time interval must not exceed 5 minutes.
