Not for the "i've been there thread"

THinking of a few days there next month, there are no direct flights from Manila,

I am assuming its best (and cheapest) to go overland from Ho Chi Mihn (Vietnam),

Any details?

Where is Ankor Wat in relation to Phnom Pheng?

Somewhere over there...
I was at Angkor Wat about 3 weeks ago.

I travelled to Siem Reap from Bangkok by bus which took about 12 hours, which will probably be the easiest route because Siem Reap is about a 5 or 6 hour bus journey from Phnom Penh.

If you do travel from Ho Chi Minh though, make sure you stop in Phnom Penh to see the Killing Fields and the S-21 prison before heading of to Siem Reap (you can go by boat which only takes a couple of hours but is more expensive).

I personally didn't think much of Angkor Wat but there were a couple of worth while temples to see. You can get 1/3/7 day passes which i believe is priced $20/40/60. I only spent 1 day there and that was enough for me but it depends on how much you like seeing temples I guess.

I was there seven years ago, during a year away, and we travelled up from PP to Siem Riep on local buses. Took a while, but was dead cheap. Went from there to Bangkok, again by bus. There were travel agents on the Kao San Road in BK offering really cheap bus tickets to Siem Riep, for about £50, I seem to remember. But it was seven years ago.

We did a three day pass for Angkor itself, gave plenty of time to see it at leisure and at different times of the day. There are so many temples, the place is vast, so our back-packers place would either hire out scooters or for a little extra, two of the staff were like motorbike taxis. Sunset and sunrise show the place in a totally different light. Amazing. Think Ta Prohm was my fave, with the trees swallowing up the monument.

Enjoy!

I was also there about 3 weeks ago! I really enjoyed it I only had one full day, wish I had more. I found sunset more interesting that sunrise but very very busy! You must have got a slow bus to take 12 hours, it took me nearer 6!

Strange my join date has jumped about 3 years earlier and post count dropped massively, not that i'm bothered

That's the beauty of NSC. you can ask it ANYTHING and it comes up trumps. Probably even knows the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow.

Would that be the African or European swallow? ???
