they really need to do something about referees. some of the inconsistancies in matches is one thing that needs to be adressed, but when they seem to not know the rules its really getting urgent.

Shockingly poor decision however the lino flagged

Which is where the blame lies. The line has the best position to judge, so the referee will go with their call 9 times out of 10.

Exactly my view the lino made the decision the referee is not at fault as he has to trust that decision.

You see 4/5 daft decisions every week. As Carver said after yesterday's games v Stains "people lose jobs because of these wrong decisions"

Why the prehistoric powers that be can't just introduce video ref's is beyond me .... purists ... pffff

And the ref was jogging right alongside Vertonghen so he should take the blame for not knowing the rules

Well, the line shouldnt have flagged at all, but the ref does of course shoulder some blame as he shouldnt have taken the line's call there.

The line is there to assist, not dictate.

Since the lino takes one half, he must have been on the half-way line with play at the other end for a corner. He is normally supposed to be level with the penultimate defender (assuming that the goalkeeper is the last defender) so as to be able to judge offside. What confused him was that the goalkeeper wasn't in his own half and he went level with the last defender. If he had stayed at halfway until a second defender crossed the half-way line he would have seen that Vertonghen was in his own half when the ball was played.

Having said that, I was in the press box which is low down so almost a linesman's-eye view but from the opposite side - and it obviously wasn't offside ...
