Letter: Football at Toad's

Why is it always stated that "Falmer is the only site for a football stadium".

Toad's Hole Valley would have been ideal.

It's unused land, only a stone's throw from the old Goldstone ground and as easy to get to as the Goldstone was and Withdean is now.

Was the fact money would have had to be paid for it the reason it was passed over?

 What is the point in writing a letter like that. The club are hardly going to change their mind after nearly 7 years:censored: Sake.

Yes, one Prior brother is actually dead while the other is merely brain dead.

Heard a few comments about how falmer is the worst place to build the stadium inrespect of old moaning nimby's, which is true.
Maybe the links were not so good or the owners didn't want to sell at toad hall. But there's no point worrying about it now especially when Prescott has already agreed that falmer is the only place to have a stadium.

The facts about Toads Hole Valley ...

1. The owners were prepared to give the Albion almost enough land for a stadium, provided they got planning permission for a HUGE commercial development alongside the stadium, which the City Council would oppose.

2. The Highways Agency would direct refusal of any application for a stadium at THV (especially if it was in association with commercial development), because of the traffic chaos that would spill over on to the A27 trunk road.

3. THV is not realistically served by adequate sustainable transport, so the site could only offer access which would be predominantly car-based - and this is contrary to national, regional and local planning policy.

4. The owners of THV are two-faced hypocrites who use every opportunity to give the impression that the place is a good site for a stadium, when all they are interested in is the commercial opportunities for development (with the Albion paying ALL the costs of the road improvements that would be required and the Football Club getting NONE of the profits from the commercial development).

There is a very nice patch of land between Gloucester and Cheltenham, right beside an airport, it is very flat and would be an ideal site for a football ground. Why didn't the club consider building it there, it would be far more convenient for me to get to home games, I don't really care about the inconvenience caused to people who follow the Albion from their own homes in Sussex, haven't the club considered me, me, me.

Well, I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and as someone stated, who can be bothered to write to a newspaper these days, you can reach far more people far quicker through other forms of written communication, NSC for example...

In any case, welcome to my adopted home of Gloucestershire, a county almost as good as Sussex and with the added benefit of not having Surrey as a neighbour.

Very true Kaz, but as my olds now live there it is far more convenient whenever I go to visit them, bizarrely I am starting to develop a fondness for the place.
