Hardly a vintage year for British sportsmen and women. It's basically Hamilton vs Hatton, although boxing is barely on our screens anymore so how much will it mean to the average viewing public?

The award is a barometer of sporting success for this country, so to have no serious football, cricket, rugby, tennis or athletics candidates tells its own story. Paddy Power paid out on Hamilton winning it months ago, I thought that was a bit hasty because the Rugby World Cup hadn't taken place. If Jonny Wilkinson had been up to his normal form in the WC Final they would have been WELL out of pocket.

Not many people can go into the top level of a sport, put the absolute shits up the reigning 2-time World Champion so much that he wants to leave the team, and miss out on the World Title by just one point, especially all at the age of 22.

If Hatton beats Mayweather he'll thoroughly deserve the crowd, his last fight was AMAZING He is an honest, hardworking but engaging person and about the only fighter I'd be prepared to cough up on pay per view for.
