Hamilton I reckon.

Calzaghe should also be under consideration if he beats Kessler on Saturday.

LEWIS HAMILTON?
personality. . . . ummmm. . . . . . .if it really is for personality and not some pointless polularity contest, give it to ricky hatton. at least he's funny (despite looking like he's melted a bit). lewis hamilton is the second most dull person in the world.

Michael Owen number 1? I'll never forget when he won sports 'personality' in about 1998/1999. I've seen pieces of cardboard look more energetic, and definitely with more personality.

Why give it to Hamilton after.....

1) Choking beyond belief in his title chase
2) Leaving Britain
3) Not telling the real reason for leaving Britain (taxdodging)

Hardly a vintage year for British sportsmen and women. It's basically Hamilton vs Hatton, although boxing is barely on our screens anymore so how much will it mean to the average viewing public?

The award is a barometer of sporting success for this country, so to have no serious football, cricket, rugby, tennis or athletics candidates tells its own story. Paddy Power paid out on Hamilton winning it months ago, I thought that was a bit hasty because the Rugby World Cup hadn't taken place. If Jonny Wilkinson had been up to his normal form in the WC Final they would have been WELL out of pocket.

It's been all over according to the bookies for a long time.

Hamilton is currently 2/5 on Betfair, although he was as short as 1/10 at one time.

Of course, it was all over last year, with Darren Clarke heavily odds on and we know what happened there...

Who would you pick, then?

Far from choking, I'd say Hamilton's first season was a great success. Not many people can go into the top level of a sport, put the absolute shits up the reigning 2-time World Champion so much that he wants to leave the team, and miss out on the World Title by just one point, especially all at the age of 22.

What about missing the pit lane and driving straight into the gravel, that was a total chokejob and in the final race he was all over the track even before his problems!

Hatton the only one in with a shout at 9/2.

It will be interesting to see what happens if he beats Mayweather.

Hamilton's achievements are incredible for a 22-year old. He'll learn from his experience and go on to win the Driver's Championship, but the point is that AT THAT POINT he should win Sports Personality of the Year, not now.

If Hatton beats Mayweather he'll thoroughly deserve the crowd, his last fight was AMAZING He is an honest, hardworking but engaging person and about the only fighter I'd be prepared to cough up on pay per view for.

The problem for Hatton's chances is that, so far as I can tell from the BBC site, the Sports Personality award is presented on the evening of December 9th UK time, which is less than 24 hours after Hatton fights Floyd.

If he were to win the fight, could he get enough votes in those last few hours to swing the award in his favour? I'm not sure.

I can't see Hatton winning under that scenario. Kate Garraway YES, Hatton NO.

Yes, yes and yes!

It's perfect timing as most of the votes for this show happen during the screening of the show itself so it would be the event that people would be aware of and talking about.
