Gang of Four, Hammersmith Palais 1981 and Amsterdam Melkweg 2005.

Or the Tubes in the late 70s. Fee Waybill was one of those charismatic characters that gave you goose bumps just by walking on stage. Pushes Freddie Mercury in my books for the title of best entertainer.

Ditto Thin Lizzy and Phil Lynott in 1978/79.

The Polyphonic Spree are quite amazing live too.

Joe Strummer and the Mescaleras at the Corner Hotel, Richmond,Melbourne. Totalyl packed of people just worshiping their hero.

Close 2nd was Mighty Mighty Bosstones at the Palais in Melbourne, they go off, very high energy set.

presumably to conceal the fact that they only ever wrote one decent song!?!

They had a few good songs to skank to, their live set was really excellent, good musos, good interaction with the crowd.

Not saying they were an outstanding band, but they created a good atmosphere.

I have 3:

1. Oasis at Knebworth, just for the sheer size of the event and we were seeing the band of the moment and their best.

2. Happy Mondays at Brixton Academy, this was one of their comeback gigs and the vibe was excellent.

3. The Charlatans at Brixton Academy, this was on the singles tour so had all the best songs (well almost) in 1 night.

Albion & England forever.

Happy Mondays, The Event about 1989 or 90. They only played a 45 minute set, Shaun Ryder forgot the words and had to sit down for most of it, but it rocked.

Totally brilliant.

That was class as was Flowered Up at the Zap club about 1990 or so when an extra large inflatable can of Red Stripe got bounced round the club. However my favourite from those days is also my favourite ever - Primal Scream at The Event with The Orb warming up and Andy Weatherall DJing till 2am afterwards right around the time that Screamadelica was released. The perfect mix of rock and dance cultures, beer, mayhem and extras. Still never been to a gig like it.

Worst had to be Bob Dylan in Sydney about three years ago. He was GASH.

The best concert I went to was. The UK Subs at the lycieum Ballroom London. It was filmed as a B movie for the film scum. Not sure if it has ever been released on Video or DVD. Atmosphere was fantastic. Everyone sung "sound of the suburbs" before they came on. I was out of my head on speed though.

Depeche Mode in St Peterburg was mad. Not sure if it was the riot police outside. Our drunken Japanese friends. The total lack of stewarding. The Crazy Russians going on about Chelski or the fact of running around in the snow afterwards trying to find our driver. Great night and DM were as great as ever. :clap2:

Love at the Dome about 3 years? ago... With their 4 piece brass ensemble....I was without words for quite some time after!!

You are not the first person I have heard extolling the virtues of their Dome gig(s).
I'm mates with a lad in the Love band too, Mike Randle used to be in a local LA band called Baby Lemonade, and he worked in a record shop in Santa Monica for years.

I take it he is a big Syd Barrett fan?

The Clash at Crawley was bloody evil. All those friendly skinheads :lolol:

Suicide!!!

lasted about 2 songs before the skinheads had the mic lead round his throat!

and the 3rd band were the Coventry Automatics, later to become the Specials!
