I think you have missed the point mate, that is EXACTLY what Pilkington is like. In fact that is the point of the show, Gervais sent him because he knew he would hate it.

He didn't want to go in the first place, he also did two books (Gervais wanted him to) but he could not be arsed to promote them. You have to understand him to get the show. Believe me, his podcasts are some of the funniest things I have ever heard.
