Well I'm off to Amsterdam on business for the next three days so you'll have to do without my pearls of wisdom.

Just a shame I'll be in a machine room until 9pm each night really, I'll be too knackered to enjoy the place.

yeah, but Amsterdam's the worst town. The 'Dutch 'experience' as a tourist attraction. Better to go to Rotterdam if you want a big town, or one of the smaller towns for a much better atmosphere. Had some great times in Breda, The Hague and (in particular) Groningen.

Id have to agree with you there fatbadger, I used to live in a town called Voorschoten and the best places were the smaller places! The Hague is quality though, never ventured up to north Holland though so havent been to Groningen!

I have never been to a more boring town than Rotterdam.

My fave town is Maastricht, used to live there but now live about 20 miles away. It is the oldest town in the Netherlands and oozes with character, became notorious with the signing of the treaty back in 91 but don't let that put you off, there are plenty of bars and a few clubs too, admittedly not as bright or brash as Amsterdam but charming nonetheless.

On the positive side the local brewery makes probably the only drinkable Dutch beer, it is a wheat beer and goes by the name of Wiekse Witte, if you vist be sure to try it, you will not be disappointed. On the downside, don't be tempted to visit the nearby town of Heerlen, it is a real pikey paradise, a couple of my mates were jumped by a local gang and hospitalised, best avoided.
