Am off to Amsterdam in May with three mates. Am a student so looking for somewhere really cheap to stay their. Anyone got any suggestions??
Yes. Ask some Dutch people to teach you how to use 'there' and 'their'. They're likely to know.
I have to agree.Afraid to say its a toilet these days, compared to the 80's/90's.
Much better places in my opinion nowadays.

I'm there at least one week in four & have to agree that for the casual visitor it's less appealing than it once was. I guess if you are a relative babe in arms then the open smoking of cannabis and the sight of hookers parading their wares will be mildly exciting but as you get older.....................
However as a city to live and work in it takes some beating. Cycling everywhere is fun and easier than driving. The houses are unique (steep stairs, high ceilings and tall windows), the people are great and the cafe culture makes life relaxed and enjoyable. We stay 5 minutes from Dam Square and being able to live right in the heart of a great city is wonderful and being able to go for a stroll along a canalside at sunset just 2 minutes from your front door feels bloody fantastic.
BUT it is very very expensive
Eat the special cakes and go straight to the Van Gogh museum and take the Audio tour.
Best thing I've ever done with my clothes on.

Red Light/"Lanes" area) do NOT enter conversation with the black kiddies that loiter around cos as soon as they clock you're English they won't leave you alone trying to tap you up for buying drugs. Say to them "ni" - Russian for no cos the Russian mafia run the show there and they'll shit themselves.
