Goldstone
Ultimately though, there wasn't the space to expand. By way of comparison, the Amex has something like 4 times the footprint
Really? I'm just looking at google maps, and using the measure distance thing. Measuring up to Newtown rd there's as much space as at the Amex.

The Goldstone was appropriate for our '70's battles with Palace. We slugged it out with them - slum to slum. We're now a 21st century club - but do I find it quite nostalgic when I'm in the Selhurst/Norwood area and glimpse the local museum piece.

Rarely in the Vol or Lamb. I was into the punk/ska scene so used to go to the Green Dragon, Belvedere (long gone), Electric Grape, Quadrant, Prince Albert etc. Hove pubs, the Albion, Stirling Arms, The Exchange, my mate's Dad used to run the Aldrington, Portland Road in the 80's.

Will have fond memories of the Goldstone.
But new times, new adventures starts from the Amex.
Very glad it wasn't called 'New Goldstone' if there was ever such an idea!

The most curious thing..
The Goldstone was a complete toilet by the end, and had been decrepit for years beforehand. Never go back.

This certainly isn't the thread for anyone wishing to have a second account named:-

I remember the Argus showing a double deck stands behind each goal, there must have been other plans to improve the Goldstone.

A big night game in the late 70s early 80s (Ipswich in the League Cup, Sheffield Weds the night we got promoted to Division 2, Malcolm Allison's Palace) was something very special at the Goldstone, the Amex seldom comes close in atmosphere IMO ( Weds in the semi final last year perhaps?) Maybe it was because I was so much younger and more enthusiastic. However the Amex is streets ahead as a stadium and is much more fitting to modern day football at the top level

Anything with a big seething terrace for me tbh. The amex with the Goldstone's north stand

Both North Stands are pretty much the same size tbh. If only we could get rid of those seats...

In all seriousness though, I wonder how much the new NS could hold if it was a terrace. Just think of the amount of fans we could fit in if we played Rugby League. Can't stand some of the laws in this country.
