I know someone who was working in the CPS at the time and was involved in the Townsend case and she told me that everyone involved in the case was was absolutely disgusted by what he apparently had on his computer. She said he was incredibly lucky not to go to prison. It was the same argument Chris Langham used years later and look what happened to him. I think because it was Pete Townsend and not a shit glam rock star or bit part actor who was found accessing and downloading child porn, people didn't want to believe that it was anything other than a huge mistake. I know I did.
