Should they be given out or should we let nature take it's course at these times? I think if we start giving peple vaccines and finding cure for ALL disease then we'll be dealing with a massive population problem no?


If they do need to give tamiflu and that out why not only give it out to people who earn over a certain amount so no idiots get it, it'd be like ethic cleansing but for people that wear tracksuits but don't play sport.

Edit: On a serious note like, should we really take such good care of the sick? We didn't have all these problems with over populations when disease was allowed to spread and the weak were picked off. It's survival of the fittest innit. The world could do with a bit of a cull every now and again, that's what natural disasters are for. Don't feed Africa is what I say.

We're too far down the line with antibiotics, either we all take every antoibiotic or we all don't. Sadly we should never have started with them and let nature take its course (which would have meant more deaths which isn't really acceptable).

Personally we should allow our own bodies to build our immunity, viruses will mutate no matter if we take anti virals or not, but we can't do that anymore as governments would be accused of "allowing" people to die...

It's like this.

The big Pharmacuetical companies and Medical Device Manufacturers spend a LOT of money and huge manpower resources in developing public awareness of whatever life extending therapy or product they have devised. This means that an endless sucession of shroud waving medics parading across the TV screens and the news pages demanding that whatever new miracle drug or implant is purchased by health providers or "people will die".

Patients recieve hugely expensive cancer medicines that extend life for a few extra painful months, people with genetic disorders demand thousands of pounds worth of therapy that gives them a couple of extra years on the planet and old people are kept alive for years beyond their natural span so they can enjoy more quality time confused and scared in some sterile hospital bed surrounded by strangers...you know why we keep them breathing? because we can. Thats all, no other reason.

I'll let you in on a secret from one who knows of these things...Medical marketing is focussed on one thing and one thing only, generating fear of death and buying influence with money oriented medics to fan the flames of that fear. No Politician will stand in their way, almost regardless of cost, if the public awareness job is handled correctly.

The next time you are sitting watching some poor soul pleading for some new drug to keep the reaper at bay for a little while longer, or watch a politician or NGO bod criticising "post code lotteries" or "heartless" Healthcare provider for refusing to pay for some ludicrously expensive intervention or other just know that behind the scenes is some product manager, brand specialist or marketing consultant giving his team a big high five in the savoy grill for a job well done.

The boys responsible for Tamiflu will be booking their cruises for the next 10 years on the back of Swine Flu...and you know what, its a crappy drug that fails to do what it promised when it was launched (cure flu that is) and was almost written off by its manufacturers as a failed launch only a year ago.

If everyone is resistent, the only way the virus can survive is if it evolves and builds resistence.

If 50% of the population are resistent, some of the virus will live on without resistence, and without that evolutionary pressure the resistence won't spread.

The only reason we are having this discussion is that on this occaision the Flu bug mutation H1N1 is relatively mild in most cases and not a mass killer as was first feared...and you know what, the next mutation of Swine flu...which incidentally is due in oooh, about 6 months time will very likely not be susceptible to the vaccine. I probably dont need to tell you that when the UK ordered the vaccine the Government believed we may be facing a massive outbreak of a highly dangerous disease...once we had bought the vaccine we had to take delivery...this is why such a fuss is being made by the NHS about vaccination...look everyone, we care about you!..the fact that in reality the illness is relatively mild, even compared to seasonal flu is largely irrelevant at this point.

Unless we can eradicate the virus totally, as we did with Smallpox, the disease will be back as it will incubate in a section of the populace who are not vaccinated and spread again. It may take a few years to re-emerge as a disease likely to cause mass deaths, but it is really only a matter of time.

In the meantime, as you say, we will have wasted massive amounts of time energy and money defeating this particular variant.
