I'm surprised Juan hasn't been on here already talking about how his adopted nation, the Brazil of hockey, gave that horrible lot South of the border a lesson in hockey today.

He's probably still out celebrating.

Looks like a repeat from the junior hockey that Juan told us about a couple of months or so ago...

Tee hee, that was hilarious. Allowed them yankees a 4-2 lead quite late in the game and then taught them how to play, beating them in the penalty shootout. It's a Canadian thing, you wouldn't understand.

Again, the booooooo hissssssss Yanks took a 4-2 lead before the Canadians taught them a harsh lesson.

Hoorah for the Canadians - must be a massive party going on over there right now.

Indeed. "Dead pan" Juan would be on the sauce right now, celebrating into the early hours if it wasn't for his pesky dog collar.

After rejoicing at the battering that Norway were given by the unbeatable Canadians, I'm surprised there wasn't a thread about how they annihilated lowly Switzerland.

But I just checked and, if reports are correct, Canada only won in some sort of penalty shootout thing after drawing 2-2. That can't be right, can it?

The Canadians have become like the US basketball team of the early noughties. The most talented players around, but they just pick a team two weeks before a tournament and hope they can play with each other. The US basketballers have worked this out now and have a regular national team who've been in place for a few years now and as a result they win everything again. Clearly not a lesson the Canadians have learnt yet.

It's correct.

In ice hockey they go to shoot outs if the scores are tied at the end of normal time + 5 minute sudden death period.

Similar concept to penatlies in soccer except the hockey player isn't stationary when he takes his shot.

Ha!

I might even bring myself to talk to my evil Canadian colleague just so I can have a laugh about this

Super Sunday definitely lived up to the billing. Two standout players for the Yanks – defenseman Brian Rafalski and goalie Ryan Miller. Great goal by Drury of the NY Rangers. The Canadian coach is looking to replace goalie Brodeur. Cant really see the Canucks struggling that much to beat Germany to qualify – but definitely a wake up call for them.

Yes, it was a bit of a disaster, although the Canadians did have twice as many shots as the Yanks and dominated the game. The Yanks just had a goalie playing very well.

I was actually hoping to lose this one in overtime, which would force the boys to play an extra game and likely avoid the Russians in the quarters. The Canadian team hasn't come together yet and need as many games as they can get. Don't forget, they have never played together before and had no warm up games. Hockey is very much a chemistry sport, and this team hasn't got its chemistry quite right yet. Will they in time? I suspect they won't.

For me, the dream final would be Canada vs Russia, but now it seems these two will meet in a classic in the quarter finals, just as they did four years ago.

I was told today that the US beating the Canadians at "their game" was just a warm up for when they beat England in the World Cup in June. Not sure I can honestly see the parallel but there you go.

Sure Kid Jensen and Bryan Adams must have been gutted but alas there I have exhausted my knowledge of famous Canucks. Hoorah for the brash , horrible Yanks I say.

I think you forgot Celine Dion, but otherwise you pretty much nailed ALL of the famous Canadians in history.

To be honest I'd like to see the Ruskies win the slippery hockey, in a final against the old enemy the USA

I thought Luongo was best in NHL, why wasn't he playing?

Brodeur is one of the best goalies in hockey history, but goalie is a position where they tend to go through good and bad spells. Unfortunately Brodeur and Luongo both went into slumps just before the Olympics. Luongo will get the start in the next game and we'll see what happens. I wonder who the back-up will be - Brodeur or Fleury.

Either way, it is obvious the pressure is getting to the players. Nothing less than gold is ever acceptable in hockey in this country.

You obviously don't know anything about ice hockey. All the players were playing for their NHL clubs right up to a day or so before the tournament began. There is no way they would be released to play together sooner. It is simply not an option for any of the top countries. The same goes for any of the players in the NHL who play for Russia, Sweden, the US, Finland etc.

The whole Olympic tournament is made up of teams who get together the day before the tournament starts and a lot comes down to which teams gel together best.

It is different on the women's side of things though.
