SHOREHAM BY SEA
Thank you. You understood the gist of my post.
My comment arose from experience of when I was eight, I had glandular fever. I missed two whole terms in a school year, but still passed my 11+ exam two years later, and that was without any online teaching.
I realise not every child can and will work at home, but a few weeks away from school to get a grip on this virus won’t make a huge difference to those who want to learn.
My grandson had to miss out on his GCSEs last summer, but apart from one grade (B) he got good marks from the assessment.

I had glandular fever when young .,nasty...took me ages to recover

Still no announcement from East Sussex which includes Hastings and Rother which was told to close by central government and B&H to the West which have closed.

Some individual schools have taken the decision to close and some Academy chains too.

The frustration in not knowing what's happening tomorrow is ridiculous. East Sussex should certainly be pushing to go the same way as Brighton and Hove, Lewes district were amongst the biggest rises in infections in the last stats released. It's clearly spread eastwards from Hastings and Rother

Think the private primary schools intend to open and privately coronavirus test all the children once a week . Presumably the state schools don’t have the funds to enable them to do this ?

Maybe in Brighton and Hove.

In parts of Kent private primary schools are shut.

That’s exactly what the state schools are supposed to be doing. The problem is it isn’t really practical for the schools to organize as they are education not healthcare professionals. Also worth bearing in mind that there is no actual Coronavirus testing in any schools. It is Flow Testing ie the same as used in the city of Liverpool over the last month and it has an estimated 57 % success rate only. It is merely meant to indicate Coronavirus and subsequently any positive tests need a follow up with proper Coronavirus testing in a test centre.

Newhaven school fully open from tomorrow. I'm not comfortable with the way they are operating their bubbles of year groups at all and I am absolutely convinced it will be back to online within a week

Windlesham school are open... plenty of not happy parents, including me

It's so frustrating. Protected myself and family for months. The only hit I got from test and trace app can only have been school run related and our kids missed 3 weeks out of the last half term due to covid alerts. This feels like a recipe for disaster

Don't you have to be within 2 metres of someone for 15 minutes? I never am which is why I've not really understood the full usefulness of the app?

..…… and/or household members or people you've had face to face contact with at a distance of less than 1m

In most of Kent apart from Dover/Thanet/Folkestone/Canterbury all primary schools are shut under Govt directive last week.

We’ve been told they are reopening on 18th Jan.

I work p/t in a private school in Kent that goes up to Y8. Pupils in y7 & y8 will be tested weekly. It is the quick test and If positive then you need to get proper test. Primary age kids up to y6 are not being tested. The Govt are providing all the testing equipment. It’s also not mandatory testing, if parents want they can opt out of testing.

Would be great for all those parents with multiple children with one device to access online learning.

I'm going to defend the schools here ( well at least Patcham High ) - they have handed out laptops to students that had no devices to access online learning.
