Alistair Stewart wasn't sacked because of "outrage" - he was gone before the story broke. He breached ITV's editorial guidelines.

He is a newsreader and will have all sorts of things in his contract regarding impartiality. I shouldn't know his personal view on the funding of the Royal Family, but lnow I do.

This isn't a first "offence" and he appears inclined to having arguments online, then calling people an "angry ape" when he starts losing the argument.

Should know better.

I'm referring to the outrage on here.

Watching adults try to tell the world about white on white racism has been entertaining

While I was mocking the 'fam' and 'blud' videos on Arsenal TV, Mrs T pointed out to me that white people use Fam and Blud too. I said I had never heard it, and she quoted the last episode of Dr Who. I said this is a fictional character, and this is just a bit of low comedy, like the character Nathan Barley refering to his white colleagues as 'My N*****". No, she says, 'I have heard this, it is quite common'.

Not starting a thread on this but....is it? Is it common for white people to use 'fam' and 'blud' like the fellows on Arsenal TV? ???

Obviously this post is useless without a poll, but a few comments would be instructive.

I don't think it's exactly widespread, fam, but for sure some do.

C'mon, people. He had no choice! He absolutely had to quote shakespeare to insult him. And everyone knows there are so few insults in the works of shakespeare he had to choose the one that would result in him comparing a black man to an angry ape. And how was he supposed to know there would be any problem with comparing a black man to an ape? Sure, that danny baker stuff was all over the news, but how is Alistair Stewart supposed to know what is in the news?!

Quite clearly, these days you can’t call a spade a spade! *

* please note, I have just resigned in my role as head of my household for my inappropriate gag!

I'm not outraged. And like nearly everyone, I don't know the full story. It is said to have gone beyond the 'ape' quote.

Now there is a witch hunt on both 'sides'.

As expected, which makes it hard for those of us who don't think he should have resigned (he wasn't sacked), some of those wading in on Stewart's side appear to be of a rather right wing persuasion.

In the end nothing will be gained. Is it ever these days ?

I'm referring to the outrage on here.
Which goes both ways. The comment above from Lenny Rider insuating that it was done for money it probably the single most fake outrageous post on the thread.

There isn't much to see here beyond the fact that a newsreader is acting like a pillock on Twitter and has probably breached something in his contract.

He lie low for a few days and end up with a nice paid gig on LBC.

If you are a talented broadcaster and journalist (and not simply lucked out for a few years) you will always end up with work.

OT: My son (27) and his mates regularly use 'Blud' certainly. And even I call the police the 'Feds' (which probably means it's woefully unhip now)

Indeed. Five years ago maybe I would have been appalled at the idea of someone having to resign simply for quoting Shakespeare. But the times have changed.

With all due respect, because the lunatics have taken over the asylum, should we all have to go along with whatever they demand? Or should we try to restore some kind of level headed ness? You said ‘maybe you would have been appalled’, not ever so slightly miffed?

I don't think it's quite that straightforward. On one level I agree with you, but the world HAS changed. Each generation rebels against the one before and shrill no-platforming, single-viewpoint, Neo-Puritanism has replaced the tolerance, peace, love and understanding of my hippy-ish generation. We'll have to wait until the wheel turns again.

That said I think it's a moot point in this case. There is no way a man in Stewart's position should have engaged in a debate on social media with an unknown member of the public. Regardless of what was said that in itself was a mistake, so I've very little sympathy with him.

But here you have a major issue with the Woke SJW crew, they are of the opinion that you cannot be racism towards white people because racism is about those with power enforcing or suppressing down on those without power, therefore by definition you cannot be racist to white people. The same argument is applied to sexism in that you cannot be sexist towards men.

As a soft, liberal lefty even I can see that this woke, perma-offended movement is complete and utter bollocks. How can we try and move towards equality by stating that quoting Shakespeare is racist yet saying whatever you like, no matter how offensive about white people is completely and utterly fair game and allowable. Utter horsesh!t.

Quoting Shakespeare is clearly not racist. However, as I said back on the first page, if I tweeted a Shylock related quite from MofV at someone I knew was Jewish, I'd expect some backlash. Stewart was naive at best.

He's making a general point on how people can accept the unacceptable.

Remember when the French cartoonists were murdered and many just shrugged and said, "Well, if you're going to draw cartoons about that then what do you expect...?"
