It is impossible to overstate how much value we have had from Pascal Gross - 14 goals and 17 assists in 108 PL appearances, for £3 million.

The recruitment team played an absolute blinder there for which they rarely, if ever, get credit on NSC.

I would accept an Ali J or Locadia signing every season if it was also accompanied by a Gross signing.

Another Premier League match, another Pascal Gross assist....

Now 14 goals and 19 assists in 111 PL matches. The bloke is ****ing incredible.

Thank you, Albion recruitment team.

This.

They haven’t got lots right since we’ve been in the PL, but Pascal, absolutely spot-on.

Alireza Jahanbakhsh signs on a 5-year deal for a club record fee

Completely disagree with that.

Fair enough.

Definite failures IMO.....

Locadia, AJ, Bernardo, Suttner, Schelottp, Andone, Button,

I would say successes

Gross, Bissouma, Lamptey, Webster, MacAllister, Veltman

All others fence, though I’m sure I’ve forgotten a number

Trossard, Maupay, Burn, Ryan, Propper, Lallana, Welbeck, Montoya, Izquierdo

Edit - if you were to push me on the fence players, I’d only add Maupay and Trossard, and probably Propper, and even Trossard is very ‘in and out’ form wise.

They’ve got PLENTY right

Otherwise we wouldn’t still be in the PL

I dont agree and feel we’ve made a number of poor signings.

You only have to be better than 3 teams.

Recruitment have done some incredible business that shouldn’t be overlooked.

Good - excellent :
Maupay
Mac Allister
Lamptey
Webster
Bissouma
Gross
Tross
And likely: Moises and the Poles

All solid buys, good value, high ceilings of potential, good resale value (so a good investment).

Jury’s out:
Andone (I like him, but splits opinion)
Welbeck
Lallana
Zequiri

Poor:
Locadia
AJ (sadly)

+ Lack of striker to replace Andone/Locadia

You can’t quote players who might be good.....[emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]
Otherwise we’ve suggested similar players success wise....

We had a bottom 3 budget in the first 2 seasons, bottom 6 since. So staying up for 4 seasons (touch wood) is an excellent achievement in a money league where CP, Villa, West Ham and Everton for example think nothing of paying huge wages and fees to entice players to buy success.

Jahanbakhsh and Locadia stand out imho as the two expensive duds. £31m out of £220m isn’t a bad effort, when transfers are inherently risky when you’re not in the market to sign the proven likes of Mane.

On the other side of the coin, the club/Potter and the players themselves have hugely enhanced the values of Dunk, Sanchez, White, Bissouma, MacAllister and March since August 2017.

It is incredible how well Ali J did in the Dutch League vs how poorly he has done in the Prem.

Every club makes mistakes with transfers but it is noticeable how in the last two seasons players not in our Championship promotion side have become more influential. This suggests we are improving at recruitment.

Hear what you’re saying, but think you’re being a little generous. [emoji2]

Very good point re sell-on values though, though of course with the exception of Biss and Mac the others were all around under Hughton. I’d throw in Lamptey as well

Fair.. it’s not super comprehensive and making some speculative guesses. But does show by and large we’ve recruited well.

Don’t agree with that. [emoji2]

Too many ordinary players..... in fact arguably the ones we’ve brought through, are better than most of the purchases.

Fair enough! Out of interest do you not rate any of these?

Maupay
Mac Allister
Lamptey
Webster
Bissouma
Gross
Tross

See my earlier post. I named all of those, and was fence/borderline for Trossard and Maupay, (I also added Propper to the borderline). [emoji2]

Yes but we’ve been better than MORE than 3 teams on more than one occasion.

Name me a PL side that hasn’t made poor signings.

Doesn’t mean we haven’t got many right

Well it’s all opinions, and of course all teams make poor/disappointing signings.

I gave you my list, you may not agree but fair enough.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here, because I haven't got any stats to back up my opinion ... but I'm gonna guess that all 20 EPL teams have made poor signings, why do you think we should be any different?

Please see previous post where I agreed with that point.
