Yup. I'm with you on all of this. There is no denying she has a superb voice but there seems to be an over-arching need to emote. Compare and contrast with another young female British singer who also has a superb voice- Lapsley. There's something of Kate Bush or Alison Moyet about Lapsley.

Must get back into my music. I've neglected it of late although both my sons have badgered and bullied me into buying Mac DeMarco's new album and i'll be listening to this tonight. Their love of him surprised me to be honest. One of the benefits of having teenage sons is that they can point me towards music that just doesn't hit my radar and they've certainly done that but it's also quite nice when they like music and artists that I've introduced to them.

I can't really make my mind up about Mac DeMarco: it's OK, never amazing, maybe quite pleasant, but somehow I always expect the next album to be different and better and it's more of the same. I can't actually imagine having a really strong opinion about his music. However, I'm seeing him live later on in the year - maybe this will bring him out a bit more for me. Anyone have anything to say about the Perfume Genius album?

Florida dream-pop outfit Hundred Waters have a lovely little EP 'Currency' out. Ethereal, introverted and twee but with added keyboards - they appeal to my inner late 80s indie. This track has clear influences from Bridge Over Troubled Water. Once I noticed it, I found it impossible to shift from the song.

Luke Sital-Singh - 'Time Is A Riddle'. The album that doesn't break any new ground but what it does deliver are perfectly formed downtempo pop tunes. Resident Records have plonked it in the same territory as Damien Rice, David Gray, early Bon Iver and the comparisons are fair, this is possibly more Radio 2 territory than Radio 6 and I suspect that it won't be for many regulars on this thread. When you've got insomnia at 4 in the morning and you're all done watching box-sets of Ghost In The Shell as I have done, it hits the spot quite nicely esp, with Sital-Singh's rich, melodic voice.

Bjorn Riis - 'Forever Comes To an End'

Airbag's Bjorn Riis returns with his second album and in parts it's absolutely epic. The lead track is without doubt the stand-out. There aren't too many musicians making these kind of tunes anymore with David Gilmour-esque guitar solos that just soar but then, being the Norwegian that he is, he can't resist a little bit of a metal riff in there too. The rest of the album plays a more than adequate second fiddle to this monster of a track and there's lots in there to keep Pink Floyd fans happy.

Madonnatron and their witchy psyche rock.

This one is getting a lot of plays in the Trees household at the moment, album is out at the end of June. They've also been supporting the Moonlandingz on their recent tour.

Wooden Wand - 'Clipper Ship'

The latest album from James Toth sees him in fine spirits. The new album is a very pleasant but short collection of new tracks that conjures up Dylan, Ellliott Smith and a big slice of Neil Young. The entire album is available to stream on Bandcamp https://threelobed.bandcamp.com/album/clipper-ship and well worth checking out. Resident also have the album which is where I got my copy.

Diagrams - 'Dorothy'

It's a collaboration between pop/folk singer Sam Genders aka Diagrams and 90 year old poet Dorothy Trogdon who provides the lyrics to this concept album exploring nature. It sounds a bit w@nky but nothing could be farther from the truth, it's actually quite a beautiful LP.

Ben Ottewell - 'A Man Apart' Better known as the singer from Gomez, the one with the languid, honey-soaked lyrical style he's got a new album apart and it's everything you'd expect. There's a few naff tunes in there, sadly I'd add Watcher to that list and that's the one available to stream (I'm not going to post it as I think it is particularly weak and might put people off) but there's much stronger and far more interesting songs aplenty on the album (A Man Apart, Cradle are particular favourites).

There's some big releases tomorrow. Marika Hackman, Saint Etienne, Alt-J, Ulrika Spacek, Roger Waters and Celebration all have new albums out. That's pretty impressive and the week after Cigarettes After Sex have their new album. All of them are on my wishlist.

I've heard good things about a band called Sweet Baboo. They've got quite a back catalogue but I don't think I've heard of them before now.

Another from the new long player. Rather good at what he does.
