How many grass root pitches are there in Brighton/Hove?

Waterhall 8
Braypool 4
Preston Park 3
Nevill 2
Wish Park 2
Victoria Park 2
Stanmer Park 2

There isnt many, if you take away Waterhall you are taking away a third of all the pitches in town

That would be a bad decision, and lead to more fixture pile ups and double headers

3 pitches at nevill plus 1 in hove park, greenleas! Understand the lack of facilities though, took teams up to the 3g in hassocks to train as nothing suitable in brighton and hove, don't want to lose anymore pitches

I've come back home.
...Besides if one site I've heard of is true then its even harder than Waterhall to get too in that respect.

Is it a floating training ground moored between the Palace pier and the marina...that would be ace but a bitch to get a lost ball back. I can see the Argus headline now "seagulls ride the waves of success".

The advantage of a new academy/training ground at Sheepcote Valley could be to incorporate a 2,000 space Park and Ride facility.

Not very useful and accessible for away supporters and home fans travelling in from the west and north for whom access would be via the A27 at Falmer (ie past the stadium) or through the city. Some potential and obvious traffic congestion problems with all of these routes too so you'd expect any planning application for such a P&R to have a tough ride, n'est ce pas?

That would add weight to the site at Goddards Green as it is easily accessible from the A23 and just up from the A27 and would thus serve the vast majority of supporters.

My thinking behind it was based on the Race Hill P&R being a short distance away which wouldn't then be needed. There are still fans driving in from Seaford , Newhaven , Peacehaven and East Brighton who would use the P&R facilities at Sheepcote Valley.

Put in an application for a 2,000 capacity P&R just to serve these areas?

A 2,000-car P&R site at East Brighton Park - for people who could use the train to get directly to the ground - in what is a country park in all but name, situated in the South Downs National Park?

The Albion are seriously considering Waterhall, as a member of my family runs part of Brighton rugby club and just before Christmas had a meeting with martin perry, Charlie Oatway and a couple of others, they are using the ATP (artificial training pitch there owned by the rugby club as it is the only full size atp in the area.
It was/will be used when other facilities become unplayable, as it did late last year when we had torrential rain and the team trained up there. Alot was discussed between Brighton rugby club and the Albion.....it will be very interesting to see what the outcome will be as the rugby club have a big part to say in the matter, although Waterhall is owned by Brighton and hove city council.

Could be a good thing as they might be able to keep what pitches they have in a state worthy of playing football on! The Waterhall pitches are horrific, bumpy and have terrible drainage. That combined with referees who think it is ok to play on a pitch with inch deep puddles in the goal mouth, ARGH, makes me mad.
there are alot more pitches than that i know...

So one of four sites is definately out, don't know which one. Heard they are considering buying a small retail park along the Old Shoreham Rd,knocking down and using that....OK! just on my way!
