I think there is one who will only get the one vote..from Ben's Grandad :lolol:

I have no idea who any of the chairmen were before 1976 when I started watching

You may as well have included that c unt Archer...both destroyers of the Albion.

Well he did, allegedly, save the club before he destroyed it by bringing in Archer. Absolute C*** but he was a chairman and people should be allowed to vote for him if they choose?

Annoys me that he never gets the well deserved hatred of Albion fans in the way the two c unts do! As you say, if people (other than his mate) want to vote for him...

Perhaps you should do a 'worst' chairman poll, IMO Stanley is far worse than Archer because he was originally a fan, rather than a businessman with no connections to the town (or should I say city)

Bamber helped to build the club when it was already heading in the right direction and thought by many to be one of the clubs for the 80's, we enjoyed a modicum of success during his tenure. On the other hand, Dick Knight saved the club when it was disappearing rapidly down the toilet and had no assets worth talking about, he also brought us home to the city.

For me there is no contest, DK is probably the greatest man to have graced the Albion in any capacity since the founding fathers of the club sat around a table and decided to create it way back in 1901.

And spent loads of money the club didn't have into the bargain. The debt caused by the 10 year contracts is what let in the likes of Stanley and Archer. We are paying for that success now the same way that Leeds are paying for the Ridsdale years.

Dick Knight gets my vote because he has saved us from the oblivion that the Bamber overspending was sending us towards and it's thanks to him that my kids will have a club to support in the future, not just a few years of past glory for me to reminisce about.

You are right.

I have voted for:

Eric Stringer who was one the partners in the old Wadham Stringer Group of Garages and was Chairman when we got our first evr promotion from Div 111 South to DFiv 11.

He gave 10 year contracts but as far as I'm aware all those players were transferred as soon as we got relegated. If it hadn't been for the death of Keith Wickenden we may be doing a Bolton by now.

To blame Bamber for Stanley and Archer is bollocks imo, Bamber was the one chairman we have had who had ambition, balls, the vision and the contacts to bring real money to this club and take us to within a whisker of Europe and being established in the top tier. No contest imo, which doesn't mean i don't have great admiration for what DK has done.

Yes Bamber did well and gave long term contracts aty very high pay etc. I was told that at the time BHA players received the most money for playing at in a cup final at Wembley of any team up to that date. Allegedly £75k per man per game due to a clause in their contract.

The down side of DK is that I am lead to believe that we now owe more than at any time in our history.

LDC may well be responsible but it doesn't alter the facts.
