Unfortunately, there's still a huge gulf between the top two/three, then four/six, then the rest for whom it's really just a case of avoiding relegation. I hope that with time it will become more competitive.
Sadly that's unlikely in the short term with the top 3-4 sides hoovering up the best talent from the other sides, like Maya Le Tissier.

If Albion are serious about becoming one of the top WSL sides, it'll need a fast land grab from TB.

It's a perfect time to do it with NewCo taking over the women's professional game and no FFP rules currently in place.

An outlay of around £1-2m on transfers would make all the difference in the short term to bring success and possibly Europe.

Long-term, developing players is the way forward. But that's not where the women's game is now.

At this point in time at least, success can be bought.

I am not sure it's as simple as that. We went quite big in the summer with the capture of experienced winners like Losada, Thorisdottir, Bremer, to compliment a squad with one of the top scorers in the division and 2 highly rated England U23 prospects Pattinson and Robinson. And we're still largely shite.

I wonder if a lack of data on the women's game is a big reason for our struggles but maybe there is more to it.

So in frankly awful news, Palace Women are 2 points clear in the Championship with 2 games to go. Promotion would see them play Brighton in the WSL next season.

They play Lewes on Sunday at the Dripping Pan, who they will very likely beat. Their final game is against Sunderland, who are currently in second. Honestly, it does look like they'll do it but it's going to be very close run.

That's OK, we can look forward to the double, double next season.

Lewes looking likely to get relegated too………..

Former Albion interim manager Amy Merricks is going to take over at Birmingham in what looks like a ‘jobs for the girls‘ appointment by Powell.

Not sure why it is awful news, there seems to be a gulf between the two divisions and I can't see Palace chucking money at the Women's team (it was only a few years ago that they were expected to pay for their own kit) so it should be an easy 6 points. Bristol City went up last season and have only managed a single win all season.

Lewes do look like they'd require an absolute miracle to get out of it. There's a very slim chance given Reading and Durham play each other, but even then it's a huge ask for Lewes.

Considering going to the game on Friday at the Amex. Are the concourse bars etc open like they are for the men’s games, and is there stuff going on outside etc?

The concourse bars have always been open in the AMEX matches I've attended, they also usually have a few bits going on outside. Although it's not usually an evening kick off at the AMEX

Thanks. I’m going because a friend’s daughter is a mascot. Not sure I can handle my first women’s match without drinking though, so wanted to check before confirming my attendance.

Don't make the mistake we made at the last match of standing up and starting to belt out Sussex By The Sea though, you'll be doing it by yourself and get tutted at and glared at

Interesting game according to the BBC website. We had a huge chance on 27 mins - Terland’s shot was deflected into the air. Must be very windy at The Amex because Baggaley then prevented the goal!

It’s HT

One post since Tuesday.

Doesn’t seem to have caught NSC’s imagination, or are you all at the Amex tonight?

I'm watching on FA Player(it's free). Everton just shading it for chances. A few self inflicted losing the ball through undercooked passing, but I'm expecting us to seal this one 2-0

I’m watching, both teams cancelling each other out. Albion missing Bremer, Robbo getting frustrated by poor service but has wasted the chances she has had.

I’m at the Amex. It’s a fairly even affair so far. We seem as if we could do with another player in midfield alongside Symmonds.
We’re passing the ball plenty without looking very dangerous.
We’ve had a couple of nervous moments when our keeper has passed out to her defenders but the defender then hasn’t had an outlet to complete the triangle.
0-0 at half-time feels about right.
