Jason Steele continues to amaze me. There's something in his locker that makes me nervous and I think I would still put Bart in goal ahead of him.
But against both Everton and Manchester United I can't remember him putting a foot wrong. I can't think of any keepers who I would be more confident with when passing the ball out.
I'm aware he's a very decent golfer and it seems his feet, both left and right can replicate every golf club in his bag.
He can use a wedge, a pitcher, a 3, 5 or 7 iron when needed and also a putter for those tight little triangles on the edge of the 18 yard area.
He causes me far too much anxiety, but if we have decided to continue playing this way I can't think of many better keepers with the ball at their feet.

And the fact that both Jason and Bart are both top blokes who never sulk when benched makes them both enormous assets.

Shame it’s only a handful of posts recognising the fact but he’s been really quite flawless in the two games so far hasn’t he? As alluded to above, his ability to pick out quick, accurate passes from the back will always be an asset for as long as we play a progressive brand of football.

Bart is obviously the future but there’s no reason why Jason can’t continue to contribute ably in the here and now.

I’m not, and never will be, his biggest fan. But he was excellent with his feet yesterday. Obviously had little to do in terms of saves (although the initial save for the first disallowed goal was superb), but he came for crosses well on a couple of occasions (which shows serious progress), and he swept behind the defense well when necessary, too. Much improved on last year, and I’d be happy if he can keep such form up.

I think we got lucky with Steele, no way was he signed in 2018 for his ability on the ball, it seems only 2 seasons ago we actually harnessed his quality with the ball at his feet. Superb yesterday.

Astute scouting back in 2018. Obviously completely disregarding the online pile-on that he was a liability.

A great option and a safe pair of hands. Bart is likely to get plenty of game time when available but if he has a decent season could be a target for poaching next summer.

Steele has a vital part to play in the squad and seems to be immensely professional in playing his part when required.

Happy to have two great keepers on our books. There was an analysis last season when they were alternating which showed Bart to be marginally better, especially on reaction saves, and so deserved to be made main stopper, but always been happy with Jason, and especially his distribution. Hope the critics shut up but they probably won't.

Who was in goal when Albion sentiment was at his highest in recent years as we surged to 6th place? It was Jason Steele. Now sentiment is once again going through the roof again and who is in goal? Why it’s Jason Steele again.

That some Albion fans make it a weird part of their personality to pretend he’s shit will never not be a total disgrace

Unfortunately it’s an unpopular opinion that JS is useful. Personally I am delighted for him and recognise his experience as a grounding presence in the dressing room. He’s had both a good career and an awful one at the same time 😂 but I think that’s helpful for a young squad. He’s no mug. Not the best keeper in the league but far from the worst. Pleased to have him around and you can tell he’s savouring every minute of it.

Good luck to him.

Steele and Sanchez had almost identical points per game.

That seems like a dig at Sanchez. He was perfectly happy:

And then he read your comment and now look at his sad face:

Can’t see him staying to be one of 4 keepers myself. Walton to become number 2/cup keeper I reckons.
I predict he'll be our third choice keeper and we'll never see him play. Couldn't care less about this signing TBH

Having seen Walton live and Steele on telly it had just better not be Steele. He doesn't look fit to lace Walton's boots and Walton represents a serious long term punt on our behalf. I'm fairly staggered and totally underwhlemed by this sigining TBH.

The most underwhelming signing of modern times.
I'm only quoting these as a kind of therapy for my gaffs over the years.
