There was a player with a very mediocre goalscoring record in the lower leagues. Worse than this player's and at a lower level. Then at a similar age, he had a good season with Rochdale.

We then signed him and the rest was history..

Yeah, but the player you mention didn't make the leap from Rochdale straight into the Premier League, it was a very gradual process, which made all the difference.

If the recruitment team are 100% he is at least Championship class, it could be a good investment if he is not too expensive. If the turns out to be PL class, great, if the turns out to be just Championship class - should at least get the money back.
