Albion Fans dicing with death

Perhaps the club and the council could provide designated pick up and drop off points.

It's all very well those of you complaining and wagging your fingers at the naughty people who do this, but it's easy to forget that a lift to and from the game is easier on certain days. It's nothing about being "lazy" it's about being given choices, which are not being provided.

If the club really are serious about expanding the stadium, then they need to accomodate everyone and not just those who are "able" to get the P&R or the train.

Where would you put these drop off and pick up points without affecting the journeys of those that use public transport? How would one police these and limit them to avoid massive tailbacks?

So says today's printed Argus.
Police are going to crackdown on drivers pulling onto verges and blocking laybys on the A27. PC Balkham says they "will towing and ticketing people even if they are just stopping."
All being discussed at a meeting of Sussex Police authority.
how's he going to do that while standing outside the ground talking to his mates ???

Apparantly there is a dedicated drop off point heading south on the A270 Lewes Road. "Fans should exit the westbound carriageway of the A27 and use the drop off zone on the left and get back on the A27 via Coldean Lane" says Albion's transport manager Steve Rees.

To be honest it's about time they put a stop to this, otherwise I could see a major incident happening which will throw a spanner in the works in regards to expansion.

This.
Doesn't take much for there to be a haccident along that stretch on non-matchdays, let alone when there's 20,000 punters all mincing about.

A pile-up caused by that and we've got a moHOOsive uphill task getting the expansion pushed through.

This is the new road next to the Waterworks which will serve the new records office being built in the field and the new car park at Falmer School if it is ever built. It is ideal for dropping off as it does not involve going onto the A27 and the road itself is wide enough for three lanes making it easy for waiting and turning. The only disadvantage is it is only a short stretch of road which may become congested if people start parking and waiting long periods.

What would the ticket be for exactly? And how come cars leaving falmer station every other day of the week aren't 'dicing with death'?

They are hardly stopping on the motorway, they are joining the back of a f*** off queue turning left, well before the University entrance, where most people get out , when it is stationary leaving the driver the hassle of going round the roundabout and back off to Brighton.

I think it is more people going the other way who stop on the bend and let people out. My Mate is a cabbie and has had to swerve a few times coming round there. People seem to forget they are getting out onto a main road. Some people park there too.

I'd like the CHOICE of a stretch limo. Or a Boris Bike. Or maybe a sedan.

And how many cars would a drop off point have to accomodate? A hundred or so? Good luck with THAT.

Here's an idea. If you absolutely 100% CAN'T use public transport on CERTAIN DAYS - bus or train. Or the park and ride. Or have mummy pick you up from the park and ride. Maybe, just maybe, you CAN'T GO?

The alternative is ABSOLUTELY NOT to cater for all the people who want a door-to-door pick-up drop-off service.
