Seagulls eye non-league winger - TEAMtalk | Football | League 1 | Brighton & Hove Albion News

Brighton boss Gus Poyet is among a host of club managers chasing the signature of AFC Totton winger Mike Gosney.

Poyet is reported to be interested in securing the 22-year-old's services, with Millwall and Wycombe also keeping tabs on his progress.

The creative left-footer has scored an impressive 29 goals in the Zamaretto South & West division this season to help the Stags climb to the top of the table.

Totton boss Stuart Ritchie is confident that the youngster will eventually seal a move to a bigger club.

"Over the last couple of weeks the interest in Mike from Football League clubs has been massive and that's the only place I'd like him to go," Ritchie told the Southern Daily Echo.

"There's no benefit in him going to another non-league side. If he's going to go, let's do it properly."

MILLWALL, Wycombe and Brighton head a posse of Football League clubs chasing AFC Totton’s supremely gifted left winger Mike Gosney.

The 22-year-old hoisted his season’s tally to 29 goals on Saturday, striking twice as the Zamaretto South & West leaders maintained their two-point lead over chasing Sholing with a 4-1 home win over Yate Town.

Wycombe were among the scouts present at the Testwood Stadium, but they will have to wait their turn in an ever-lengthening queue with Millwall having already invited Gosney up for training this week.

Six foot-plus left wingers are a rare commodity and Gosney appears to have the whole package with his ability to go past players, deliver dangerous crosses and score goals aplenty into the bargain.

In the past he has trained with AFC Bournemouth – who are again showing an interest – and last summer he impressed in a trial game for Aldershot Town against Leyton Orient.

But Gosney, who earns his living as a chef for TGI Friday’s, could not get time off work at short notice to follow up Shots’ interest.

So far professional football has eluded him, but Totton boss Stuart Ritchie is convinced it’s only a matter of time before he gets his big break.

“Over the last couple of weeks the interest in Mike from Football League clubs has been massive and that’s the only place I’d like him to go,” said Ritchie.

“There’s no benefit in him going to another non-league side. If he’s going to go, let’s do it properly.

“Mike deserves this chance. He’s not just impressed this season, he’s done it for a long period of time.

“I’ve never tried to hold him back, I’ve always told him to go out and enjoy his football.

“He likes to be relaxed and this year he’s come on even more as a player.

“He’s put on a bit of weight and grown into a man. For a winger to be six foot one or two is quite unusual.

“He’s scored a lot of goals this season and he was always going to. That’s what he does.”

The most curious thing..
Our recent record with non-league signings doesn't seem to have been that impressive...

McFaul - sank without trace
Dixon - didn't even bother to sink - just without trace
Holroyd - pardon?

Anyone else?

Mike gosney lives down my road, very good player on his day.

Had a bit of a hit and miss career, trials with bournemouth twice, and rejected twice, had the chance with aldershot last summer, but as they contacted him on the saturday and wanted him down on the sunday, he declinded because of work? bit of a silly oppertunity to turn down

also, when on loan at eastleigh last season, he didnt turn up for training or matches a few times due to work also.....

any if you care, he works at t.g.i fridays
