Not the JPF ..splitters !
I was in a mini town hall at Amex with Peter Godfrey, who at the time was fifth in line to the Amex global organisation. He was going through lots of boring facts and figures, and then suddenly out of the blue mentioned he had a meeting with Dick Knight that afternoon. At that time there was zero connection between The Albion and Amex. I spoke to him after and quizzed him about it. He was very coy but did indicate possible sponsorship of the yet to be built stadium . He was adamant the shirts would not be sponsored. At that time, Amex only got involved in golf and tennis. Every time he would visit, and this was when I was in Telecom House, he would feed me another morsel. Eventually I accidently on purpose bumped into him and TB at Withdean before the 3-3 Southampton match. It was then I knew things were serious, but was sworn to secrecy. Peter is now a member of the Albion board.Forgive me for the link (don't shoot the messenger) but DK did talk to American Express who said they wanted the word Community involved. They were involved with the charity side (AITC) before the Amex opened and the naming rights discussed.
Albion ring in the changes with new name for the Amex and charitable arm
The Seagulls plan to rename their home ground from the start of August, calling it the American Express Stadium, whilewww.brightonandhovenews.org
Edit to add a thread from last year when AITC was changed to the Foundation.
