PLAY HIM FROM THE f***ing START.

Don't get me wrong, I know he's not the greatest player in the world but our midfield is so one dimensional at the moment and Oatway is playing like a right shadow chaser.

I'd love to see Hammond moved into the middle and Currie wide right with Jarrett getting up to the strikers more on the left. With Knight and Jarrett pace and Virgo trying to get the flicks we'd be far more dangerous?

I agree something needs to be looked at. Last night we ended up with Hammond having to move inside to help out and so leaving the flank exposed. Oatway had an odd one, he showed that he struggles at this level and at times the game by-passed him, but at the same time made a couple of telling plays. Carpenter looked well off the pace and with Nicolas struggling for Saturday, we could have problems.

(waits for LI's blind faith in Oatway argument).

Agree about Chippy, very jaded.

Oatway did make a very important challenge towards the end of the game when Cardiff were chasing a winner but most of the game it was like our central midfield didn't exist. If El-Abd is fit could Reid step up into the middle of the park?

Was'nt at the game last night (listened to Radio) but would'nt we be better off with a charger/hacker/call him what you will player like Oatway in the middle at times? With Jarrett/Currie and maybe Chippy we dont really have an Ince/Batty type player and that to me is something we could use this season...even if he cant pass as long as he gets stuck in and hussles them off the ball then that could count for something. Then leave Currie/Jarrett to do the play making with Chippy or Alexis in the middle to steady the ship, then against lesser opposition sub oatway onto the bench and have chippy/alexis.

Piercy back for the reserves today apparently UB. I've always rated Reid since day one and knew he would come good, think he's a midfielder by trade but bloody good cover at RB by the sounds of it!

I think Reid maybe an option in the middle or on the right for away games, however I would like to see another wide player in the home games, whether that be Jarrett, or maybe Hart or Jones as they offer a bit more cover for the full backs.

Hate to ask a stupid question but when is Piercy back, that would give us another option in midfield.

Playing for reserves tonight. I would agree that we could do with being more adventurous in midfield at home, we miss a bit of attacking capability on the right hand side. Currie/Nicolas/Capenter/Piercy or Jarrett/Nicolas/Carpenter/Currie both sound quite promising.

I have to say he has not looked too bad at right back, although there were a couple of times last night where he went charging out of position and left us exposed.

Something that was worrying last night was we did not look organised at set pieces. One thing Cullip does to his credit is get players into position, but Oatway was not doing this and really Butters should also have been taking some lead here.

Still not a bad result when it boiled down to Kuipers v Cardiff.

I agree

Would like to see a regular midfield of

Currie, Nicolas, Hammond (or Chippy), Jarrett

we all know the merits of oatway off the pitch which have been well documented and i can even agree that IF he has to play he deserves to be made captain, (given that cullip isn't playing) but he is not up to it at all atthis level the only two things he did well were a couple of tackles- that nicolas would have done had he not been injured- and one good pass out to currie onthe left wing first half.
now i agree chippy looked either unfit or just off the pace mentally, hopefully thats all it is. but i was yet again unimpressed by our belief either on the pitch or from mghee's tactics that we defend a lead. even with cullip playing this is a dodgy enterprise as we don't do it correctly. if you must seek to hold on to a lead then get it in the channels for virgo to hold up whilst waiting for support or play keep ball whilst avoiding the need to progress up the pitch not the get rid of it quickly mentality.
we seem to invite teams to attack us and so far home or away this season i haven't been scared of anyone, with the possible exception of wigan who have talent and ability with pace and creativity. we invite the other teams to play lets stop it and use OUR ABILITY, PLAY TO OUR STRENGTHS AND IMPOSE OUR GAME ON OTHER TEAMS... that is the only way to stay in this division- we should not posses fear but embrace the nervous energy that surrounds us and turn it into something positive. (sorry to go all Obi Wan on you all but i feel like we need to change our attitude soon or risk leaving it until the last minute to give us a chance.)

oK fair enough you may have a extremely good reason for not going last night ............but I get annoyed with people who come on here spouting off about this and that but who don't to to games It just doesn't make sense to me ...........last night I got to the match 10 mins before kick off I left work at 5.25 (leadenhall street in London) nipped into my house in preston circus quickly changed then rushed off to the Withers If I can make that effort so can everyone else.

There were about 600 empty seats in total.

Jarrett isn't good enough...yet. He needs to be able to defend before being given a start. The problem is that the full backs don't want to travel with the ball and just look for the long ball along the line. Not exactly international football eh?

I was giving out an idea about players in positions and what we may need, thats after going to games and listening to the radio (albeit you dont get the same impression but its still pretty decent).
I could'nt give a rats arse if you awoke at 6am and flew direct into Gatwick from Cape Cod and got a limo straight to Withdean to "make the effort"!

oh sorry you must fit into the NSC "I'm a better fan than you" Brigade.....apologies :thud:
