In the car listening to the Wolves v Liverpool game when Alan Green mentioned that Fletcher of Wolves was a lifelong Liverpool fan. Now I can't get my head round this, but AG said I'm sure he'd love to score against his boyhood idols, a comment that most commentators say given the same position.

My question is, be it a silly one one. If you were for example a professional football player and as a loyal Brighton fan playing for another club (palace dont count) , I know players have to be professional but would you take any delight in scoring against the Albion. The thought makes me shudder !??????

If (BIG IF) I was a professional playing for another club against the Albion, I would try my hardest to score, its my job at the end of the day, however I would take no joy in doing so and I would of course accidently score an unfortunate o.g. to even it all up

I can remember John Byrne not scoring a sitter for Sunderland in front of the North Stand...then wiping his forehead whilst smiling in our direction...I am not saying he was trying not to score, but he did a very poor impression of someone who was!

I'd have it written in my contract that I would never play against the Albion.

Job sorted.

Lifelong Spurs fan Gary Hart was more than just keen to play in the cup game at White Hart Lane. And there was nothing about his performance to suggest he wanted anything other than an Albion victory.

Denis Law relegating United for City with his back heel even though a draw would have still relegated them. He didn't seem to mind?

I think this is always blown way out of proportion.
At the end of the day, hardly any of these guys would have seen their 'beloved' team much because they play when the games are on AND they are going to feel a much stronger connection to clubs they've been involved with.
I read a Millwall supporter saying they'd get more out of Purse because he was a boyhood Millwall fan. Come on!

I'd smash in the winner and run to the Albion fans hand held to my ear. It would make you a hero with the team you were playing for.

On the other hand, wouldn't you love to score a goal against palace in front of the holmesdale that relegated them. I would have an Albion shirt under my top ( of whatver club paid me £100,000 A WEEK) and give it the big one to the happy clappy nigels! as I showed them the blue and white.....one can only dream.

Your level of pay seems to indicate that palace will one day be a top level club again which is surely far more an act of fantasy than anyone giving you £100K a week.

Off track but good response, but the posing question was about scoring against your childhood club
