Is it my imagination, but talking with my dad today, we seem to remember Mullers playing a few games for us as player manager when he first managed us? Anyone shed any light on that?

He played in a friendly/testimonial. There is a rather unflattering pic of him in the stripes scoring a penalty.

The most curious thing..
He played the same number of games for us as Poyet.

He did indeed, I was there! The first team was away somewhere as was the youth team. Me and 14,000 turned up to see him in the stripes.

That was in the back of my mind when I posted. Pretty sure you are right! He was never player Manager but he ran the game from the centre circle.

Lucky we had a chairman who shared the same view you had..

Thanks! That brings back memories!

Was that the Charlton match? If so, was 17000 I believe!

I was at that reserve game which he totally bossed
Overweight and legs were gone, he barely strayed from centre circle
Yet he sprayed inch perfect passes all across the pitch time and time again
It was impressive

Rings a bell, could have been Charlton but for some reason 14,000 sticks in the memory. Either way, pretty impressive for a reserve game. Watched it from the West Stand instead of my usual East side.
