He needs to be given a chance, what was the point in signing someone just to sit on the bench and give him 10 minutes here and there? He comes from one of the best teams in the country so surely he's got something about him so let's see it!

I don't know how people can judge him on the small amount of game time he's had. Loanees don't seem to get a fair assessment imo.

Wilson was slated. Tex too. And then there was Jessie Lingard who was apparently so shit that two seasons later he was in the Man U first team.

Honest instant assessment of Akpom so far? Sack of spuds. COG 2.0. Turned well and played Murray into a goal scoring position a couple of times on Tuesday to be fair. But on evidence so far has little future at the Albion. Let alone at Arsenal. Not what we need.

Let's not beat around the bush: you have extremely strong opinions on strikers, that utterly lack nuance.
Evidence: one in ten Glenn; six in five Tomer; (roughly:) 22 wins, 7 draws, no losses at the Amex Baldock
How will your clear view on Akpom stack up?

I don't think many have slated Akpom. Merely saying he looks lacking in match sharpness which is no comments on his footballing ability.

I rated Tex and Lingard. Wilson was an odd one, clearly had ability but seemed to have glandular fever or something similar.

People writing him off but also people saying he's better than what we have (which is bloody good).

I think our issues in 2017 haven't so much been up front but failing to keep it as tight at the back as we're used to. Could be shown up completely by stats but that's my gut feeling.

How the hell can the 'jury be out'? He hasn't played yet... good grief. (metaphorically speaking)

Jury still out on him. Doesn't work anywhere near hard enough. Looks to me like he needs a pre-season which is obviously a concern.

Baldock has to start IMO. We desperately need him bedded back in to the side.

I have zero confidence in Baldock against a team like Barnsley who are going to bully him off the ball. I'd start with Akpom too. Baldock is likely to get injured again soon so we might as well get Akpom up to speed for when it happens. Akpom made more happen in the few mins he was on that Baldock managed all game.

As for Akpom - he's looked OK until it comes to the shooting bit where he's looked awful. Will of course give the lad time but how anyone wanted to start him over Sam is beyond me. And is have said exactly the same if I'd seen this thread yesterday btw!

Well, that prediction worked out well.

You have no idea how pleased I am to be so wrong. I still think Akpom will prove all his doubters wrong but if he has to wait while Baldock is scoring, win win

It's very early days for Akpom, I'm just concerned by his workrate more than anything - as the Baldock cover surely we expect him to run his arse off?

All being well whether akpom is good or not won't have much bearing on our final outcome. But I do think we should have signed better in January

The 4th striker choice, remembering ,its a difficult position to fill ,as he will be a bystander ,for a fair % of the season.......O'Grady,Manu or Akporn........?

Regardless of your opinion on Akpom, Baldock has been absolutely magnificent all season!

I have a very high opinion of Baldock and have backed him on here over the last couple of years, but I confess I thought he was terrible on Tuesday, hence suggesting we start with Akpom. As I said happy to be wrong
