Ain't hooliganism great.

Hooligan jailed after fatal fight
A football fan who killed a man with a snooker ball concealed in a sock has been jailed for four years.
Martin Thorn, 40, died from head injuries after being attacked in a Bristol pub by Joseph Dowman, 27, who had mistaken him for a rival supporter.

He died of head injuries in hospital three weeks after the attack in 2006.

Mr Justice Owen sentenced Dowman, from Coronation Road, Bedminster, at Bristol Crown Court on Friday. Dowman had already admitted manslaughter.

Officers said the fight was sparked when Dowman and friends, all Bristol City fans, sprayed pepper gas at Mr Thorn's friends, believing they were Bristol Rovers fans.

In fairness they did think he was a Rovers fan.

I know of this incident very well. My daughters boyfriend was in the group who were attacked and luckily for him had just left the scene before the attack.
His wife had just given birth a few months before. It was a works outing.
4 years is quite frankly ridiculous because surely when you hit someone around the head with a weapon like that you are trying to kill or inflick serious damage to that person. That was a condition of the murder charge surely.............. manslaughter... absolute travesty.

That's what's wrong with the legal system.
The pyscho admits manslaught, everyone is happy.
The process is nice, quick, and cheap.
The only problem is the actual justice system which has been murdered as well.

I don't know the case but the article does say that the criminal's group were attacked first so there seems to be an element of self defence? Therefore it cannot be murder (which is pre-meditated) and has to be manslaughter?

Can't find where it says they were attacked first, but I can find where it says that they were armed with pepper spray and snooker balls in socks, which must mean there was an element of pre meditation ?

No Yorkie. They went into a pub and where pepper sprayed because a couple of the group where known to have supported Rovers. One of the guys went back into the pub to tell them what a bunch of ..... they were and the guy had already prepared himself with a pool ball in a sock.
