Portsmouth have pulled out of the race to sign Tottenham midfielder Darren Anderton.
Pompey chairman Milan Mandaric said they had sought to sign the England international, but the player had failed to meet a deadline that had been imposed by Portsmouth.
"We made what we thought was a very good offer and we gave him a deadline.

"I'm very disappointed. I made a personal effort. I flew in a couple of days early from holiday to sort it out and I'm disappointed they didn't have the courtesy to give me a call.
"They didn't take it and now we have to move to some other player.
"It was a substantial deal and we're disapointed he didn't take it, but maybe that's for the best," said Mandaric.
The high-earning Anderton, 31, who played only 20 league matches for Spurs last season, still has one year left on his contract.
He is Tottenham's longest-serving player and earns about £30,000 a week.
Southampton-born Anderton joined Pompey as a trainee and spent two seasons with the club before moving to Spurs in a £1.75m deal.
