If anyone has any doubts on the wonderfulness of AFL football, Have a watch of the Cats Hawks game just played. Once again these teams bring out the best in each other and Cats win it by a whisker to make it 9 straight wins over the Hawks since 2008 when the Hawks pulled of a shock win in the grand final.

Fantastic game and the competition shudders as the Cats announce their return to form after a slow season so far.

Presumably there was lots of beefed up oafs fumbling the ball left right and centre too? There is a reason it's only popular is Oz.

Is it still a mullet-tastic sport?

I'm a sports fan and I can see the beauty in most things. Most AFL i've seen is endless minutes of possesion changing hands and lack of co-ordination. Of course there's some moments of brilliance but they are very few and far between.

That is a shame, at it's best it is moment after moment of quailty skill and/or tough brave and hard action. Tonight's game was two quality hard teams going at each other. The atmosphere at the MCG would have been electric tonight, gutted I missed it (bloody family being sick!)

It was always more popular out here because soccer was full of guys who fall over with the slightest bump and act like they'd been shot.

That kind of soft as shit put a lot of people off the game.

Soccer can be an embarrassing game when you see some of the pussys and cheats playing it.

This. Big fan of contact sports, but they just seem to kick it too each other aimlessly. I want to see more hits!

Any chance we could avoid this being an AFL V Soccer thread? Can we respect the fact we are on a Football message board and not cause a dopey argument between two fantastic sports?

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure that there are some excellent spectacles. For continuous raw skill and brilliance, AFL would be nowhere near my agenda. If you like "big hits" and brawn over brain - AFL is your game.

Yeah the most popular sport in the world is embarrassing. If you don't like it, you could always f*** off from a football message board?

Sounds more like rugby league to me. Sounds like you have either been unlucky with the games you have seen or you haven't seen enough. It does take a little while to get to grips with the subtleties and complexities of the game. But each to their own.

Fair enough, maybe I havent. How come it has never caught on anywhere else?

Please bear in mind I am no lover of Rugby League either for much of the same reasons I dont like AFL.

that is a very valid statement in this instance.......as a fan of afl(sydney swans) and a football lover(our beloved ALBION)i can say that the rules of afl are simple and complex all at once..........chances are if you think afl is utter gash then you have no understanding of the rules , which is understandable cos it has taken me over 10 years of watching it to come to grips with them , understandably i suppose.:dunce:
