In football, as in life, sometimes you are having a bad time but then it all clicks and it seems nothing can stop you. Last night at Whitehawk was one of those nights.
The MOTHS turned up knowing a victory would secure them promotion, but no one could have been prepared for the onslaught which saw them score eight without reply in the second period.
Ironically, things began poorly for NSP'S heroes as the ref penalised Albion Rob for an 'illegal' throw out and then let their striker rap the ball home before the LIZARDS had prepared. A swift equaliser from MARKUS pulled things level before a mazy run and shot saw the opposition take the lead. But there were eleven goals left in the match and they would all have scales on them.
A deflected strike from SAFEWAY was followed by a clinical finish from TOBELERONE to put the MOTHS in front for the first time before CHAPPERS struck with a sweet curling shot that dipped just under the bar.
A swift half-time team talk came with a demand for 'total soccer' as the LIZARDS finally flexed their impressive muscles and took control of the game.
As shots rained in from all angles, TOBE hit anohter two and MAX also completed his hat-trick. JOHN got on thbe scoresheet with a crisp cross shot as the MOTHS turned on the style. But better was to come as the ANTELOPE scored twice in quick succession - his second a fine lob which the keeper tried to field but actually ended up falling over backwards and crashing into the goal, bringing it down and leaving himself and his team mates red-faced.
There was time for CARBBERS to get on the scoresheet, meaning every LIZARD scored if you include ZTEVE'S strike. By the end the MOTHS were playing to a samba beat and surely such a mauling will act as a stern warning to next week's opponents with alpl eyes on the title.
so a very big WELL DONE to one and all and it would be good to have a few LIZARD fans there next week to roar us on to glory.
