Pervis Estupinan will be on the bench for Brighton's Europa League Group B match at Ajax on Thursday, according to manager Roberto De Zerbi.
Estupinan has been sidelined since sustaining a thigh injury against Aston Villa in September.
Brighton are third in a tight Group B, one point behind leaders Marseille.
"Tomorrow he will be on the bench, I don't want to take a risk with him, but now we don't have too many solutions in that position" said De Zerbi.
"We are trying to get him in the condition to play tomorrow or on Sunday because we have another important game against Sheffield United."
Brighton full-back Tariq Lamptey will not be involved against Ajax as he recovers from a muscular injury.
Solly March, Julio Enciso and Jakub Moder are also all out with knee injuries and Danny Welbeck is a long-term absentee.
The Seagulls recorded their first win in the Europa League with a 2-0 victory over Ajax at Amex Stadium two weeks ago.
De Zerbi's side have won just one of their past eight matches although they are seventh in the Premier League table after a strong early start to the season.
Ajax's loss to Brighton two weeks ago was their first fixture since sacking head coach Maurice Steijn.
After appointing new boss John van 't Schip, they have won back-to-back league games to climb off the bottom of the Eredivisie table.
"They are very different because they changed the coach," said De Zerbi.
"I watched [the game against Heerenveen] on Sunday. They played a good game and won an important game. They scored four goals, they are different."
