Aerial freeview advice

Does anyone know anything about aerials?? I have a digital one but one of the aerial points in the house isnt picking up the signal, think it just needs connecting up but dont know how to do it. If anyone knows what to do or know someone who isnt going to rip me off drop me a message. Cheers

What it is is that i have a digital aerial on the roof but i want to move the tv into the conservatory which has an aerial, i think its an old analogue one as it doesn't pick up any signal on my tv

I have found that if you have aerial connectors/ splitters anywhere along the line it won't pick up certain channels - like SSN & ITV4

i cant pick up anything, my tv has built in freeview but it is not picking it up

I've got an old small analogue aerial on mine with a splitter (but no booster).
Picture's fine with no lost channels.

Have you checked the aerial on another TV?

Yeah i have tried two different tvs and no luck.

Just searched my tv online and it does not have built in freeview (sorry thought it did) at the moment i run sky through the tv. So i want to move this tv into the conservatory and get freeview i assume (as ive got sky not sure what to do) i will need to buy a freeview box attach that to the aerial and it should all work??

Sounds like there is something wrong with the aerial then.

Is it pointing the right way?
Is the cable connected to it properly?

You could try one of those cheap indoor aerials but YMMV depending on how strong the signal is where you live.

Yeah because we use to use freeview in the house but switched to sky, not sure if it is connected properly.

I live in bhill can hardly get a mobile signal

Oh dear, someones been watching traders from hell. There are benchmarked, high gain aerials, designed to improve digital reception, It makes me laugh when they show an ancient contract aerial (cheap to produce, designed before channel 4 came online.) and say it will be fine for digital TV. It will only be fine if you are in a perfect reception area.

But still there is absolutely no such thing as a digital aerial.

As you say you sometimes need the best quality, higher gain type in areas of weak reception, but still at the end of the day it's something metallic connected to a cable. Out of order that aerials are being sold on the basis of being "digital".

In my old flat, the analogue signal was terrible, bouncing off buildings and giving a horrible ghosted picture. But since the signal was still strong and due to the nature of the digital receivers, Freeview was perfect.

In my new place, since I have such good reception here (being even nearer the transmitter), I am currently receiving all the freeview channels perfectly in my kitchen.

My aerial consists of a wire connected to the extractor fan, I kid you not.

I'm sure my extractor fan is the analogue type. Whether it will be able to extract smells after analogue switch off is another story.

Whats this then, A thread full of pedantic people. Aerials are not generally sold as being 'digital'. If somebody needs an aerial , they pay for an aerial, there is no extra charge because it receives digital. You are lucky to receive freeview so easily but as for your metal on the end of a cable theory, oh dear. That is why they make FM & dab aerials different. You don't get a lot of TV reception off of those metallic items.
