Hi, I do a 86 mile commute to work a day, eastbourne to surrey!

Currently drive mercedes A150 petrol, now has 130,000.. Been brilliant car with no major problems or breakdowns!
Just think its time for a change before it dies lol!

Been looking at Vw passat tdi, volvo ,bmw 1series, seat tdi..

Any advice or ideas what's a good, comfortable, reliable and High mpg car? Thanks

To be honest, I'm not sure that any used car will last 21,000 years.

I'll get my coat.

PS I'd go for the Seat tdi out of that list....

at 130k, your merc is just run in, has another 100k in it if properly serviced.

I do 30000+ miles per year and can vouch for Audis having had A4, A6 and A3 all with few problems. I now have a Passat 1.6tdi and MPG is 60+ with all mod cons.

These have all been from new so I cannot vouch for second hand but provided they have been serviced properly you should be fine.

You can't go far wrong with German cars.

I have the 1.9TDI engine and will get between 57 to 62 mpg depending on the usual driving factors. If getting a new car watch out for service intervals on VAG engines. You don't want one on fixed 10k service intervals as on 20k+ miles a year that will be expensive.

I got a Hyundai I30 I.6D , has a fairly good power behind it, full mod cons (air con, cruise, parrot incar phone, heated seats etc)

Got it around July has 120,000 on the clock cost £3500. Would recommend Hyundai so far. Get much more car for your money

Edit get around 45-50 mpg overall and upto around 65/70 on long journeys

Whatever you get check that its not fixed service intervals, about 6 years ago I was doing 30000+ miles per year and got a Hyundai with unlimited mileage 5 year warranty. Unfortunately I didn't realise it was fixed services at 10000 mile intervals & cost me more than the warranty was worth.

Not sure how big you car has to be but I have a Honda Civic 2.2 TDI and I love it. Great car to drive. I get about 45 mpg for my diesel but you would get nearer 50 on your longer drive.

i was going to post something similar.if you Mercs running well why sell, loads of miles left imo

Good advice with the mobility golf, the risk you run with the merc is the cost of repairs when it does go wrong
