I have to admit I am getting worried, I'll take a deep breath

" I want Palace to suceed this year ", there I've said it.

I have to confess I have held a great admiration for Palace this year and their superb fighting for survival and team spirit. They have no right to stay in the Premiership this season, but have put the wind up some of the fancy boys of the league. For a fairly average bald bloke in his mid 20's to be 2nd top scorer in the league infront of all the Fancy Johnny Foreigners is I think superb.

They also have a top top manager in Dowie, he is great. They are very similar to Albion this year in that they are overachieving and putting the sword to the Premiership prima donna's.

I want them to stay up, why ?, because they deserve it.

Shall I seek therapy for this admission or should Lord B ban me from NSC.

I don't go in for all this " stand up if you hate Palace " crap. I am a fair man and say it as it is. Palace deserve to stay up this year.

I want Southampton to go down more than Palace. For Palace to go up last season via the play offs and stay in the Premiership shows Albion what can be done.

I also want Norwich to stay up as I thoght Delia was magnificent

You have a very fair point GG and I'm almost tempted to back you up, were it not for the fact that I want to play Palace next season. And we're not going up...

O.K Gareth, lets see if we can talk some sense into you, you strange, strange man.

First, Palace's alleged 'superb fight for survival'. Lets be honest. It's really nothing of the sort is it? In 29 games they've managed to win just six. Whilst losing over 50% of their games. Hmmm, impressive. Not only that, forget their league position for a second and look at their points total. They have amassed a grand total of 26 points from 29 games. So three less points than games played. Such a record would see them firmly ensconced in the bottom three in all of the other professional leagues in England. They are relying heavily on the growing gap between the have's and have not's and the *have not's* increasing inability to be even remotely competitive. Coupled to this is the stroke of luck that they went up with two even more incompetent teams than themselves (although west brom are having a good go at actually winning a game today.) and that Southampton tried very hard to join in the act by refusing to appoint an actual manager . However, with the appointment of Harry Redknapp, Southampton have finally begun to show a bit of fight and can point to a record of 9 points and only one defeat in their last six games. So, now Palace can't rely on the ineptitude of the teams around them, we will really see if they do have a fighting spirit.

Oh yes, as for putting the wind up some of the fancy dans of the division. They haven't done anything of the sort. They've held on for draws against arsenal and man utd, which fair enough, are decent results for them but I doubt either arsenal or man utd came away from them wiping their brows and thinking, 'wow! that was close. We were really lucky to get away from this game with a point.' Their wins have come at home to: West Brom(not many teams have managed that, eh?), Fulham(a side that has spent all season in the bottom half of the table and has onlymanaged a whopping three wins on the road all season), Birmingham(like fulham a side thats spent all season knocking about just above the relegation zone with just three wins away from st Andrews), Villa (mid table mediocrity with a shite away record- two wins and 11 points from 14 games) and against tottenham(this is the one result i'll accept as a good'un, a fine 3-0 win over north london's no.2 club). Their solitary away win has come against Brum, who have a distinctly average home record(Palace's win was one of 5 defeats Birmingham have suffered in 14 games at St Andrews this season). As for the rest of their points, apart from the games against man utd and arsenal, they've been gained by holding an assortment of lower half of the table teams to draws. To date, they've only managed to pick up points off half of the teams in the league.

So, they've only managed to 'put up' such a 'magnificent' fight against survival because , well up untill recently, there have been 3 teams who have appeared absolutely hellbent in paying withdean a visit next season. Now southampton are showing a little mettle, we'll get to see how much fight there is in Palace. Until then, there is nothing that will make me applaud there attempts to stay up.

As for the slapheaded short arsed brummie they've got upfront. He has scored a very impressive eighteen league goals(which, incidentally is over HALF of their goals this season. Talk about a one man team. Another reason to not be sucked into this rubbish about how well they are fighting...). However half, yes thats right, HALF, have come from the penalty spot. A frankly incredible number, i think you'll agree. Take those penalties away and his goal scoring record, whilst pretty good for a side down the bottom, suddenly loses some (a lot) of it's sparkle.

I hope this has disabused you of your foolish idea's Gareth. I'd hate to see as fine and upstanding a citizen as yourself succumb to, what is in truth, such a horrible, debilitating mental sickness.

... some long-winded half-arsed piss & drivel. . . .

But good for you GNLF.

Not sure I'm too keen on this outbreak of Seaweed applauding the Palace.

I might actually be tempted to tip my hat to your team's efforts so far this season. But I wouldn't make such a declaration public.

Are you tipping Palace to stay up, Gareth? :D

Thank you...;)
I take exception at 'half-arsed', though. I even did research on the number of penalties that slaphead has scored for you.

Fair do's . . . I retract "half-arsed".
An impressive, if galling, piece of homework for any 'weed.

But I'm sure AJ would have scored on each of the ocassions he was cynically hacked down by a desperate defender. :smokin:

Can I just add that my three favourite AJ goals were not scored in the Premiership. :smokin:
